Srinagar:
Pakistan on Monday assessed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) of the prevailing tensions in South Asia after the killing of 26 people in the Indian-— Lekgal occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) Turistby Pahagam.
UNSC went into an emergency in the camera at Pakistan’s request and received a briefing from Pakistan’s permanent representative ambassador Asim Iftikhar.
The meeting attended all 15 members, including the five-permanent veto-performing powers.
“Pakistan is grateful to the members of the UNSC for their attention and commitment,” Ambassador told metikhar to journalists while informing the media.
He described the Kashmir question as a prolonged dispute between Pakistan and India and said it has been lingering since the last 70 years.
He expressed strong reservations about India’s recent unilateral acts and said that Pakistan had raised an effective voice against Indian actions in the Security Council.
“Pakistan is always ready to defend his sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.
Ambassador Iftikhar expressed reservations about India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Water’s Treaty (IWT) and called it a violation of international law.
He condemned atrocities of Indian forces in IIOJK and said that the oppression and persecution of unpaid and innocent Kashmiris continued unabated.
About the Pahagam attack, the Pakistani delegat condemned the incident and made it clear that Pakistan had nothing to do with it. “Pakistan is ready to fully cooperate in a transparent, independent and international investigation of the incident,” he added.
He emphasized that Sustainable Peace in South Asia was not possible without the solution of the Kashmir question and called for the solution to this issue to be in line with Kashmiri people’s hopes.
“Kashmir -tvisten cannot be solved without the participation of the Kashmiri -People.”
The Pakistani Delegat said that India’s actions constituted serious threats to peace and security in the region and emphasized that conversations were the only way to peace.
“Pakistan is always ready for conversations based on the principles of mutual respect, dignity and sovereignty.
