Former University of Pennsylvania Women’s Swimmer and Conservative influencer Paula Scanlan is never in a rewarding mood when it comes to her Alma Mater, but she was in a joking mood when the university accidentally came and asked for a donation the same day as the Trump administration paused $ 175 million in her federal funding.
Scanlan, one of the female Upenn swimmers, who was forced to share a pool and changing room with transcend swimmer Lia Thomas in the 2021-22 season, Pakinomist told Digital that she often gets requests from the University Call Center for Donations.
By chance, she just as happened to get a Wednesday, hours after the financing break was announced.
“They always call me and they call all the alums … Evidently I’m not interested in donating any money. I don’t think I’d ever consider it until I get an excuse of being forced to dress in front of a man in the dressing room three times a week.
“But ironically last night was one of the times they chose to call me to ask for a donation … they always call me to pray, always ask for money and [Wednesday] Was one of the times they chose to do it, which I thought was really fun considering the message. ”
Scanlan added that the last time she received a request from Upenn about a donation was in February via E -Mail.
“This is not a new thing, but I’m sure they are pushing for cash, and it’s definitely something they try to do.”
Riley Gaines will send a ‘Taknote’ to Lia Thomas-Her is why
Paula Scanlan shares her story as a swimmer at Upenn, who competes against teammate Lia Thomas, the first trans-core D-1 athlete to win a title. However, Scanlan wants more than just an excuse for her Alma Mater to ever have a chance to earn her donation.
“The University of Pennsylvania has 150 plus unique things that you can lead in, I think we look at mass departments that are completely useless degrees. Students take hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans to major in useless things like gender studies and I think we have to see them get rid of it,” Scanlan said.
“This is not unique to the University of Pennsylvania, and it is something I would like to see before I would ever consider donating not only to my university, but every university throughout this country.”
Scanlan has been one of the most obvious critics of Upenn for his decision to list Thomas on the Women’s Team, which goes back to Trans Athlete’s Women’s debut season in 2021-22.
Scanlan, a survivor of sexual assault, offered anonymous insights to news reports about the emotional influence that Thomas’ presence on the team had on her and other teammates. Then, in July 2023, Scanlan witnessed open with Riley Gaines to members of the House Judiciary Committee’s Under Committee for the Constitution and the limited government.

Now, three years after the college swimming season that changed her life, she sees the institution that puts her through this experience pay a fierce financial punishment.
Still, it’s not as big of a price that she would like to see it pay.
“I think it’s obviously a good thing, it’s a good message to send,” Scanlan said. “But it will only make a small difference, and I think what they are likely to do with the financing cutter is probably a few administrators, it will not make overhead change to these departments, to the types of professors they hire, to the ideology they teach.
“I hope we continue to see people strike down on this kind of campuses and I hope to see reform, but again this is just a small first step.”
The news of the financing break has led to several festive answers from some of Scanlan’s former teammates, but they share her belief that further steps need to be taken. Former Upenn swimmer Grace Estabrook told Pakinomist Digital that she wants to see all Thomas ‘and other Trans -Athletters’ Posts and Recognitions in the Women’s Category are revoked.
I am grateful that the administration recognizes federal violations and intervenes, but we still need these institutions to be held fully responsible. This means clear political changes, the prior items, prices and recognitions to go back to the women who deserve them and the institutions that facilitated sexual harassment, and our sufferings were fully aware of the wrong as they have done and that the pain they have caused, “Estabrook said.
Estabrook is part of a lawsuit with her and Scanlan’s other former Upenn teammates, Margot Kaczorowski and Ellen Holmquist trying to get Thomas’ records scrubbed.
Kaczorowski and Holmquist delivered a joint statement to Pakinomist Digital via the Independent Council for Women’s Sports, which also praised the Trump administration for the financing break.

“We are so pleased that universities are starting to see that there is a cost to openly harming female students on their campuses and we hope the pressure will only increase. Penn and other universities within NCAA, under NCAA policy and their own junk leadership, have violated federal law and wounded women,” the statement reads.
“They have deliberately stolen opportunities and prices from women, placed women in physical danger, and relieved the sexual harassment of female students athletes. Every woman on a university campus and under NCAA rules must be sure of title IX protections. Institutions that disregard women’s well-being, must understand that they do not get to rewrite or ignore federal protections.”
