MAKKAH: A group of US-based Pakistani doctors and business people called for a senior official in Islamabad and Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan at Rawalpindis Adiala Prison, The news Reported on Sunday.

These interactions are part of PTI and its sympathizers’ efforts to seek some relief for Khan. These backchannel efforts are, in addition to the negotiations behind the scenes, held between PTI and the relevant quarters.

So far, no progress has been made in any of these efforts in the midst of expectations that PTI’s backchannel is talking to the establishment can resume.

Some PTI leaders who have interacted with the establishment in the past are trying to resume backchannel conversations.

The military company has consistently insisted that it would not talk to politicians and political parties, and that it is for the political parties to discuss politics and related questions between them. However, some PTI leaders have talked about their backchannel interactions.

A source that is aware of the recent interactions between American-based Pakistani doctors and business people with Khan and a key employee said the breakthrough of such efforts depends on PTI-social media and Khan’s behavior.

Khan and PTI’s social media and its foreign chapters, especially PTI-US and PTI-UK, have consistently targeted the military’s top command. The social media of the party ran campaigns one after the other against the army and its command.

False stories were spread, while influential world capitals, including Washington and London, were contacted to bring pressure on Islamabad and GHQ to release Khan.

PTI has also been active in derailing the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program for Pakistan in addition to seeking sanctions for the country’s military.

PTI’s second-team leadership, which in itself holds the party’s social media and its foreign chapters responsible for causing problems for the party and its top leadership, know that things may not be improved for the party and its imprisoned leader until PTI-Social Media and Khan stop targeting the Army institution and its top command.

Now that a delegation of American-based Pakistani doctors and business people has met an important official and Khan, it would be interesting to see if Khan and the party’s social media show some restraint.

It is believed that the situation of PTI and its top management can only improve if they stop negative policy, avoid targeting the army institution and not harming the economy. For PTI and its sympathizers, the immediate concern is to get relief to Khan.
