Washington: US defense secretary Pete Hegeth has again shared information on upcoming US air strikes on Yemen in a private signal chat group that included his wife, brother and personal lawyer, reported on The New York Times.

AFP was not able to independently verify Times‘Report that detailed what would be the second time Hegeth has been accused of sharing sensitive military information about the Commercial Messaging app with unauthorized staff.

Last month, The Atlantic Ocean The magazine revealed that its editor -in -chief was inadvertently included in a signal chat in which officials, including Hegeth and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, discussed the strikes that took place on March 15.

Revelation triggered a rebellion in which US President Donald Trump’s administration faces a scandal over the unintended leakage. A Pentagon-Inspector-General probe for this leak is ongoing.

On Sunday, The Times reported that Hegeth had shared information about the same March 15 strikes with the second signal group chat.

The information shared “the airplanes for the F/A-18 Hornets, which was targeted at the Houthis in Yemen,” the newspaper reported.

Outlet said that unlike the unintended leakage in which journalist Jeffrey Goldberg was mistakenly included in the group, this group chat was created by Hegeth. The other chat was initiated by Waltz.

“It included his wife and about a dozen other people from his personal and professional inner circle in January, before his confirmation as defense secretary,” the Times‘Reported, with reference to named sources.

Hegeth’s wife Jennifer is a journalist and earlier Fox News producer. The group also included his brothers Phil and Tim Parlatore, who both serve in roles in the Pentagon.

Parlatore also continues to act as Hegeth’s personal lawyer, reported The Times.

Pentagon did not immediately respond to a AFP Request for Comment.

‘Baker, baseless attack’

Trump was largely blamed for the previous leak at Waltz, but has rejected calls to shoot top officials and instead insisted on what he called the success of the attacks on the jemenitic rebels.

This week, three top Pentagon officials were put on leave pending studies of unspecified leaks in the Ministry of Defense.

Deputy Chief of Staff Darin Selnick, senior adviser Dan Caldwell and Colin Carroll hit Sunday and released a statement that the Pentagon clerk had “baked our character with baseless attacks.”

“At this point, we still have not been told what we were exactly investigating if there is still an active study or if there was even a real study of ‘leaks’ to begin with,” they said in a joint statement published on social media.

“Although this experience has been unconscious, we continue to support the Trump-Vance administration’s mission to make the Pentagon great again and achieve peace through strength.”
