The United States has fallen to its lowest happiness ever, according to the latest World Happiness Report, largely due to an increase in Americans eating alone, AFP reported.
By falling to 24th place, the United States has seen a significant fall from its peak of 11th place in 2012. An important contributor to this downturn is the increase in solo eating, which has increased by 53% over the past two decades.
By 2023, about one in four Americans reported to eat all their meals alone the day before the study. The report emphasizes that social insulation, especially during meals, is linked to lower levels of well -being.
The report also notes a troubled trend in the United States with “Deputy Despair” – which includes suicide and drug abuse – continues to rise. This is in contrast to a global fall in these deaths.
The emergence of mental health issues and increased feelings of isolation seem to contribute to the nation’s declining happiness.
Experts point out that these factors, along with the increased occurrence of people eating alone, significantly affect Americans.
Worldwide, Finland has maintained its position as the world’s happiest country for the eighth consecutive year with its strong welfare system, low levels of corruption and deep connection to nature, playing key roles in the high location of the country.
Meanwhile, Costa Rica and Mexico have entered the 10 happiest countries for the first time, reflecting the growing meaning of social support and a strong sense of society. Afghanistan remains at the bottom of the list due to ongoing humanitarian crises.
The happiness collections are based on individuals’ self -assessed life satisfaction together with key factors such as GDP per day. Per capita, social support, life expectancy, freedom and generosity.
