Polish tennis star Iga Swatek fell into straight sets to start US Amanda Anisimova in the quarterfinals of the US Open Wednesday, and she had a testy exchange with a reporter afterwards.

Swatek put together a solid season. She won in Wimbledon for the first time in her career and made the semi -finals of the Australian Open – the only Grand Slam tournament she is not yet winning. Another American open title continues to avoid her. She bent out of the quarterfinals in 2024 and lost in the fourth round in 2023. She won two WTA Singles titles this year.

Swatek was not about to apologize for her game, and especially it wasn’t about to say she was tired. The competitive desire and general frustration led to the awkward exchange with a reporter according to Tennis Channel.

When asked if she needed a “mental break,” swate back, “why would you say that?”

“Talk to people responsible for the schedule. Do you need a mental break?” She asked and followed up with “You look like you need a mental break.”

The reporter agreed that they may need a “mental break.”

“Well, what are you doing here?” Asked Swatek. The reporter replied that they have to come to the end of the tournament.

“Good luck,” she said.

Swatek entered the tournament ranked No. 2 in the world. But it was Wimbledon Rematch with Anisimova that sent her home from Flushing Meadows.

Anisimova won 6-4, 6-3, and will meet Naomi Osaka in the US Open Semis.
