“Coming in here, we didn’t think of a three-peat or any kind of title defense. It was an independent event,” Bates said. “We were as prepared as we could possibly be and we skated as best we could.”

The Americans and Canadians have dominated ice dance in recent years and won six of the nine medals awarded in the last three years.

The rivalry between the teams of chock and bates and Gilles and Poirier has become one of the most intense in recent years, and this year it had extra spice of geopolitical excitement between their respective countries.

The United States and Canada are engaged in an unprecedented trade war after President Donald Trump introduced a number of tariffs against Canada, which received a retaliatory post in response.

The excitement of the ongoing trade war is wasted in sports.

The sports voltage was first exposed to the NHL 4 Nations Face-off Tournament from 12 to 20 February. Fans in Canada lived the US national anthem while fans in the United States lived the Canadian national anthem ahead of several games.

It started February 13, when Canadian fans in Montreal lived the US national anthem following Trump’s threats of imposing CANADA TABLE RATES AND SUGGESTIONS THAT THE COUNTRY TO BE AMERICA’S 51.

The Canadian national anthem was then booed in TD Garden in Boston before a 4 Nations game between Canada and Finland.

The US and Canada then met in the last 20th of February, and US fans in Boston again booed the Canadian national anthem, albeit with a lighter tone. Canada won the game in overtime, 3-2.

Canadian men’s football coach Jesse Marsch blasted Trump for his “51st State” remarks and called them “insulting.” During the Concacaf Nations League Media Day, Marsch said he was “shame” about how Canada had been offended by the president.

“If I have a message to our president, it is dismissed the ridiculous rhetoric that Canada is the 51st state,” said Marsch. “As an American, I am ashamed of arrogance and ignoring, we have shown one of our historically oldest, strongest and most loyal allies. But one thing is for sure: When I look forward to one month from now, this will burn our team. The mentality we have, we will play for our country.”

NHL Legend Wayne Gretzky has also been criticized by colleagues Canadians for his apparent support from Trump, who recently said he had asked Gretzky to become the next “Governor of Canada” after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced he would resign.

After Gretzky expressed support to “Canada, which remains a separate country, rather than becoming a loved and beautiful 51st state,” Trump declared Gretzky a “Free Agent.”

Now the United States has noted a victory in the increased sports rivalization with permission from Bates and Chock, but the effort will be higher in Milan Cortina Winter -Ol next year.

Chock and Bates were part of the American team that won the team gold on the 2022 matches in Beijing after a long -term study of Russian doping. But for all their success, Chock and Bates have never been in an Olympic podium in ice dance and finished in fourth place three years ago.

“I think the Olympic season certainly carries a different weight than the other three years,” CHOCK said. “You have this incredible opportunity to reach the whole world, and it makes it really special because it reinforces our voices on and off the ice.”
