A promising Texas Tech football player will have to wait until 2026 to get back on the field.
Quinten Joyner, who transferred to Red Raiders after two years at the USC, suffered a non-contact injury during the team’s review on Saturday. Texas Tech Head coach Joey McGuire confirmed on his podcast what the team feared – Joyner tore his ACL.
Texas Tech, ranked No. 23 in this trouble, will now be without the man who is expected to work the brother of the car in the back field this year.

Joyner was a four-star recruiter that went out to California instead of living in his original Texas where he had some offers. He spoke 478 rushing yards with four gathered touchdowns last season for the Trojans, where he mainly backed up Woody Marks.
On his way to Texas Tech, he offered a better opportunity to get playing time while also returning closer to home.

But now McGuire has to focus on Cameron Dickey and J’Koby Williams, the other two who run back on the depth card that needs to step up instead of Joyner.
“I hate it so much for him, just because of how well he has done it in the spring, summer and camp,” McGuire said of Joyner. “He has really come in here and been a professional, and we have asked him to do a lot of things that he has not done before. … he is really led to it, so it is unfortunate.”

Given how much of a factor Joyner was expected to be in Red Raiders’ violation, it will be interesting to see how they are ranked by a week before the season begins.
Texas Tech is looking to improve its 8-5 record a year ago under McGuire. Big 12 does not have a predetermined winner with Arizona State (No. 11), Kansas State (No. 17) and Iowa State (No. 21) together with Texas Tech with regard to teams in the top 25.
But injuries are a cruel reality for football, and McGuire’s team will have to have a next man-up mentality after losing Joyner for the year.
