- Valve’s new headset is reported to cost $ 1,200 in a bundle
- The company allegedly sells headset
- Sources claim you can play Steam Deck -Games on it
The upcoming Valve VR headset, the codename ‘Deckard’, was joined to launch towards the end of 2025 and alleged to cost $ 1,200, according to fresh claims from a well-known content.
According to Gabe Follower, a content creator with over 200,000 followers of X, the new Valve Deckard VR Headset will be available as a complete bundle for $ 1,200, which allegedly includes some games as well as the two “Roy” controllers. Despite the high price tag, it is claimed that it will be “sold with a loss” of Valve.
In addition to playing virtual reality games, it is assumed that the headset will also be able to play “flat game” that looks like the steam deck without requirements to use an external screen or TV. Gabe Follower claims that “Valve wants to give the user the best possible experience without cutting any costs.”
In addition, it has been said that the models for the “Roy” controls were visible in a SteamvR update. Allegedly, the new VR Headset will support a modified version of Steamos, as seen in Steam Deck, but tailored to a virtual reality experience. The controllers seem to remove the traditional ring design of the company’s previous model, Valve Index, in favor of something more related to Meta Quest 3S.
As an independent device that can also be connected to a PC, it is currently unknown what kind of hardware valve’s new VR Headset, with some concerns that it could struggle to achieve its rumor 120Hz update frequency with an alleged 1440p decision across two screens. Similarly, the expected battery life has not been mentioned at this time.
Earlier, in September 2023, Valve certified an unannounced hardware device in South Korea, and the company hinted at the next generation of its VR Headsets. Product designer Greg Coomer said, “I can definitely say that we continue to develop the VR Headset recently. Valve has a lot of expertise in VR devices and has faith in medium and VR games.”
The next generation will be expensive
While the PC-bound Valve Index launched for $ 999 back in June 2019, the upcoming Deckard Standalone VR headset looks more expensive for $ 1,200 for the “full bundle”. As an all-in-one device, its main competition will not be from high-end PC VR settings such as HTC Vive Pro 2 and Pimax Crystal, but like Pico 4 and (most crucial) Meta Quest 3, as well as the cheaper Meta Quest 3S.
Most Standalone headsets are found significantly cheaper than the alleged price of the valve deck. E.g. Offers Meta Quest 3 for $ 499.99 for the 512 GB model, with Meta Quest 3S, which costs even less, starting from $ 299.99 for 128 GB version. In addition, the Pico 4 Ultra, a middle-class all-in-one headset, is repaid to equivalent of $ 670, although it is currently not yet available in the United States.
It puts Valve’s upcoming VR-independent headset in a tough market, where it is an advanced headset that is primarily aimed at PC players that also cost everything from double (or triple) the majority of its competition. While its functionality (essentially doubled as a portable steam tire) sounds exciting, it is an incredibly high request price considering the current market mode, eclipse all available mainstream options right now.
We do not know if Valve Deckard is worth until we see it in action or test it yourself, so it is too early to judge its qualities based on just the rumored pricing. However, it costs more than the index by $ 200 (and far more now since the sale) and many of its competitors, that’s more than the index with $ 200 (and far more now since the sale) and many of its competitors.
That said, it can be a smash-hit success as a comprehensive solution for replacing screens and TVs if you are anyone living in a cramped space. As we saw with the steam deck’s meteoric increase in popularity in the last three years, with the competition now incredibly fierce, Deckard could do something that catches on and ends up being imitated and innovated by others. However, if this is to happen, it is necessary to offer a much lower MSRP than what is alleged here.
