PESHAWAR:
A video showing the killing of a suspect during an alleged police encounter in Peshawar’s Badhber area has gone viral on social media, prompting the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister to order a transparent probe into the incident.
According to police, the incident took place in Janay Khwar Teela Band locality where Inzamam, son of Israr and a member of the Afridi clan, was killed in a gunfight.
Taking notice of the viral video, the Chief Minister directed the Provincial Inspector General of Police (IGP) to conduct a fair and impartial investigation. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr. Mian Saeed also took immediate notice of the incident and formed a high-level inquiry committee to ascertain the facts.
The committee will be headed by SSP Investigation Ayesha Gul, while SSP Coordination Khalid Khan and SP Saddar Division Raza Muhammad Khan will serve as members. The CCPO directed the committee to examine all aspects of the case thoroughly and submit a comprehensive report at the earliest.
Mian Saeed emphasized that the investigation must be conducted with complete transparency, professionalism and merit. He also directed the authorities concerned to preserve all evidence and record testimony in a timely manner.
Meanwhile, according to police sources, the deceased suspect had been wanted since 2024 in several criminal cases and was allegedly the leader of a mobile phone tapping gang.
