We don’t even have a release date for Virgin tearr season 7 yet but Netflix have confirmed Virgin River Season 8 has already been green lit. The news comes a week after Season 7 wrapped shooting, which officially makes it the longest running original series on the streaming service.
Although we do not expect Season 8 episodes to hit before 2026 at the earliest, Season 7 was refused to be released sometime in December 2025. That means we only have season 6 to speculate on where the show could go. The last season left us with five key cliffhangers to lead us into future episodes, and it is unknown how many of these go as far as season 8.
However, the early renewal news for the Hit Netflix show is now one of Cliffhangers from Season 6 much less likely to be true, and that’s good news for anyone who hasn’t been a fan of surrogate history.
Mel and Jack may not become parents until Virgin River Season 8
Season 6 finally then Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson) marry, and Mel later approached by client Marley (Rachel Drance) with a suggestion to be a surrogate mother for the couple. Marley’s potential parents have been pulled out of the adoption process at the last minute, with Marelely wanting flour and Jack to have the baby instead. We haven’t seen Mel answer yet, but the news of Season 8 means the action could be less likely to hold on.
Why? We have two reasons. First, Netflix loves to pull the small cities we are desperate after seeing-not once a year has gone into the Virgin River throughout the six seasons we’ve seen on screen. Secondly, the original book series tells us that Mel and Jack ended up having two biological children, and making a family of four takes time.
Put our pessimistic hats on and we may think that Marley’s proposal turns out to be something or in a worst case scenario, a total scam. However, this may very well be the case. The dramatic U-turn happened in the last moments of season 6 section 10, with absolutely nothing earlier in the series to indicate that there were problems. The expected couple was far too protective of Marley during her clinic sessions with flour, so this could easily be a moment of panic that will be resolved later on the line.
On top of this we will also see flour win. She has been struggling with fertility problems since arriving in the city, suffering yet another spontaneous booth in season 5. Fans want to see that Mel and Jack have children on their own terms (biologically or not) more than anything else, and Netflix would be incredibly cruel to not deliver on it.
Seam Virgin River Season 7 Quick approaches (we hope), keep an eye on the surrogacy story. My money is on that that doesn’t come to anything, which makes Virgin River Season 8 The Make for our romantic leads, finally starting a family.
