Washington seems to be the latest state ready for a showdown over his decision to allow biological men to play in girls and women’s sports despite President Donald Trump’s executive order in February.
Washington Interscholastic Activity Association (WIAA )’s representative assembly suggested two changes to its policies that would only keep girls’ sports to biological women and potentially offer an open department whose student athletes were interested.

Washington State is created for a showdown over trans athletes in girls and women’s sports.
However, Wiaa commuting director Sean Bessette said in a statement to the Seattle Times on Tuesday that the proposals would violate the state law.
“Wiaa has been told by Attorney General’s Office, Office for Civil Rights and Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, which suggested changes ML/HS #7 and ML/HS #8 would be a violation under the current Washington State Law and confirmed our lawyer’s legal review,” Bessette told the paper. “WIAA remains obliged to comply with state legislation and these changes that focus on participation in gender identity would not be implemented on August 1 if they were to pass the current state legislation.
“If the state legislation should change, Wiaa’s Executive Board has authority and would have to change the association’s rules accordingly.”
The proposals will be voted on by the 53-person representative assembly, but no changes will be made to the rules. The suggestions entitled ML/HS #7 and ML/HS #8 are only strictly advisory voices.

“Amendments would not be implemented under the current state law. Athletic programs would be offered separately for boys, girls and an open department for all interested students,” ML/HS #8 read.
Washington State Law requires local educational agencies to allow transcend students to participate in interscholastic sports “, which is most closely in line with their gender identity,” according to WIAA.
Kennewick School Board filed a title IX complaint to the US Ministry of Education’s Office for Civil Rights against Washington State’s Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal this week. The complaint contained a plea of ”urgent” federal intervention against the state’s ongoing policy that defies Trump’s order.
Reykdal previously claimed it was “inaccurate” to say that there are only two sexes under a video address at the end of February.
“It is simply inaccurate to say biologically that there are only boys and that there are only girls,” said Reykdal. “There is a continuum. There is a science for this. There are children who are born intersex. There are children whose hormones and whose chromosomes are not in accordance with their gender at birth.
“Our state laws make it clear that children must identify and participate on the basis of the gender they identify. We will maintain this law.”
Reykdal also insisted at this address that Trump has no authority as president to issue a ban on trans athletes in girls’ sports, but admitted the US Congress does.
