Water level Wave in the Jhelum River after India’s unannounced discharge

India has released additional water in the Jhelum River from the Indian illegally occupied Jammu & Kahsmir (IIOJK) without prior notice, causing concern for rising water levels.

As a result, the river experiences a flood-like situation with a stream of 22,000 CUSERCS passing through the Domel area of Muzaffarabad.

Local authorities have issued a warning to the citizens and advised them to stay away from the Jhelum River due to the increasing risk of flooding.

This development comes shortly after a tragic incident in the Pahagam district in IIOJK, where 26 people were killed and over a dozen others wounded in a shooting at a popular tourist place.

In the wake of the Pahagam attack, India’s Hindu nationalist government accused without conducting any investigation Pakistan for the incident and unilaterally announcing the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, which was broken by the World Bank in 1960 to control the division of river water between the two countries.

Pakistan quickly rejected India’s one -sided steps to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty and called it a violation of the agreement.

The National Security Committee of Pakistan issued a strong statement and claimed that water is a critical national interest and lifeline for over 240 million Pakistanis.

The Committee emphasized that any attempt to block or divert the flow of water from Pakistan’s share would be considered an act of war and Pakistan will protect its water resources at all costs.
