Waterborne disease outbreaks hit emergency camps

Lahore:

Widespread flooding in Punjab has left children in several affected areas suffering from fever and diarrhea diseases.

The provincial health department officials said the administration has corrected the expansion of medical camps in flood areas to protect life and prevent further outbreaks.

Families living along Riverbanks are encouraged to move to safer places, with both promised to help with their evacuation.

Reports indicate that in flood -affected regions along Ravi, Sutlej and Chenab rivers as well as parts of Multan, children are increasingly becoming ill due to unsanitarian conditions and seasonal changes.

Families that protect near river banks remain vulnerable, although relief camps provide medicine for both children and adults.

In the camps, children are treated with fever and coughing syrups, antibiotics and injections, while parents are advised to ensure access to clean drinking water.

Meanwhile, the authorities have warned that further flooding water is expected to enter rivers in the coming days.

The administration has been asked to prioritize preventative measures, including timely evacuation of residents from vulnerable river banks before flooding waves intensify.

Officials emphasized that the protection of life must remain the highest priority along with the efforts to minimize the destruction of communities and livelihoods.
