Wayne Gretzky began following Alex Ovechkin on Friday night in the middle of his walk to surpass the big and the NHL’s leading goal scorer trip was almost done in one day.
Need three goals to surpass Gretzky, Ovechkin scored twice to tie, and tried his daredest to get a hat trick.
Nevertheless, Gretzky had been a solo leader for over 31 years. But now he has company and soon he will look up for the first time in a while.

But Gretzky is more than in peace where his record is tied up and goes down soon.
“That’s OK … That’s what the game is about,” Gretzky told the monumental sports network shortly after Ovechkin bound him.
“Alex has been great for the game, great for Washington, great for his homeland. It’s wonderful. I’m very proud of him, I’m proud of what I’ve achieved, and that’s what makes our game so wonderful are the great athletes we have, and more importantly, the good people they are.”

Alex Ovechkin Odds: When does he break Wayne Gretzky’s scoring record?
Gretzky became the NHL’s goal scorer at all times back on March 23, 1994, when he exceeded Gordie Howe with his 802 Career Objective. He scored 92 more before hanging up in Cleats in 1999 to bring his total amount to 894.
Ovechkin turned on the lamp just four minutes into the game against Chicago Blackhawks for Inch as close as he could. Then, just over five minutes into the third period, the capitals went on a power play, and Ovechkin exploited, took a passport and creaked it past goalkeeper Spencer Knight.

Ovechkin’s next chance on the record will be on Sunday in New York against the islanders, with the puck that is set to fall at 1 p.m. 12:30 ET.
