- Waze on iOS trenches google assistant soon
- Gemini and conversation reporting takes over
- Google Assistant remains in Waze for Android for now
Gemini replaces Google Assistant across multiple apps and more devices at the moment, and if you are using WAZE on your iPhone, you will soon notice the mapping app that switches the older AI bot to the newer one.
As discovered by tech editions today (via macumors), the message was made on the official Waze Community Forums. The message recognizes that Google Assistant at WAZE for iOS has been buggy for some time, which is a reason for contact.
“Instead of simply patching a feature that has been exposed to continuous difficulties, we have decided to phase out Google Assistant on iOS starting tomorrow and replacing it with an improved voice interaction solution in the near future,” Reads Forum Post.
While Gemini is not mentioned specifically in this post, the improved AI app has been named as the basis for the conversation reporting feature that WAZE already has preview and is being tested with a limited number of users at the moment.

The upgraded conversation -reporting feature, driven by Gemini, will enable more natural conversations with WAZE when you’re on the go. It will understand a wider range of sentences and will ask follow -up questions where needed.
So you can say “The cars are jammed in the future” or “There is a mattress in the way”, or something else relaxed or informal – and Waze understands what you mean and make sure the right report is logged into the app to other users.
Given the Google Assistant’s Buggy character on WAZE for iOS and Gemini’s superior capabilities, it makes a lot of sense for this switch to be done now – especially as Google seems to speed up phasing out Google Assistant.
Google Assistant remains in place at WAZE for Android in the foreseeable future, although this change will undoubtedly happen in the end as well. Waze says conversation reporting will roll out to everyone in the “coming months”.
