Sindh -Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has strongly opposed the proposed Cholistan Canal project, which warns that his party has the power to overthrow the federal government.

Murad Ali Shah, who spoke informally with journalists in Karachi, reiterated that the water distribution remains Pakistan’s most critical questions. He claimed that the Indus River System’s water shortage data contradicts federal studies and expresses doubts about the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA )’s assessments.

“People used to say that the Kalabagh dam was built, and now the same situation is created with the Cholistan channel,” said Murad Ali Shah, adding that Sindh will withstand any step that undermines its wandering rights.

Murad Ali Shah accused Punjab of one -sided, a channel from the Chenab River and argued that such projects require national consensus. “We raised objections to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) and will continue to oppose this in the Council for Common Interest (CCI),” he said.

He also rejected claims that surplus of 27 million Acre feet (MAF) Water was available to the delta and said, “If it was true, our delta would flourish. Reality is different.”

Sindh CM accused the federal government of manipulating the meeting’s items regarding land distribution to the Green Pakistan initiative. “President Asif Ali Zardari was told that additional land would be cultivated if provinces had no objections. But the official meeting minutes were changed to justify the channel’s construction,” he claimed.

Murad Ali Shah insisted that Sindh had adopted a decision against the channels and would not allow their construction. “Pakistan People’s Party is a political strength and we will use this strength to stop this project,” he declared.

According to Murad Ali Shah, Punjab continues with his channel project despite resistance. “We sent a team in February to inspect the site and there was no activity. Then suddenly we found out that the construction had begun,” he said.

He also claimed that the Punjab government awarded 1.2 million acres to the Green Pakistan initiative using solar-powered pipe wells for corporate farming.

CM SINDH demanded that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif publicly announced that the federal government does not support the Cholistan Canal project.

“If the Prime Minister does not make this statement, we will stand with the people of Sindh. The opposition wants the federal government to collapse, but we will withstand channel construction by means of constitutional means,” he claimed.

Murad Ali Shah also called on Benazir Bhutto and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s inheritance and remembered how PPP successfully blocked the Kalabagh Dam project. “The Indus River is our lifeline. The federation must respect our position,” he concluded.
