- The Russo brothers have revealed which ‘Secret Wars’ cartoon -series inspired the next two Avengers films
- Two different comics released in the 1980s and 2010s carry the title ‘Secret Wars’
- The films are influenced by both literary works
Avengers: Judgment Day and Avengers: Secret Wars‘Cumulative history is not influenced by one of the latter cartoon names on the other, the Russo brothers have revealed.
Talking with Techradar for their new film The electrical stateThere landed on Netflix this Friday (March 14), Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that they will “get inspiration” from the 1980s and 2010s cartoon series that carries the monic ‘Secret Wars’.
Avengers: Secret Wars is one of two Marvel films that the siblings will direct over the next two years. And with two different comics called ‘Secret Wars’-Jim Shooter-written, which ran from May 1984 to April 1985, and Jonathan Hickman-Penn version released between May 2015 and January 2016-have fans speculated on which series will directly affect the fifth and sixth Avengers films.
“Well, we always create our own version of the story,” replied Joe Russo when I asked if they were looking for inspiration from one cartoon over the other. “So we use the comics as loose inspiration.
“But you know I grew up on the original race. It’s something that got me to Marvel Comic Books. The Hickman race is also great [and they’re] Very different from each other in many ways, so we get inspiration from both of them. “
What can Marvel’s Secret Wars Comics tell us about the plot of Avengers 6?
Projects developed by Marvel Studios are secret at the best times. However, I suppose the Disney subsidiary will take things to a whole new level from a Privacy Perspective when it comes to Avengers: Judgment DayThere lands in theaters in May 2026 and its successor films.
Well, if you ignore the latest leakage about the next two Avengers movies, anyway. Oh, and depending on what you read into Russos’ response to my inquiry about which Marvel Heroes will appear in Judgment Day and Secret wars.
So what teases the slider and hickman’s literary works about Secret wars‘Overall tale? (Spoilers follow for both cartoon and potentially, Avengers: Secret Wars!?
Shooter’s 80s race, whose art was produced by Mike Zeck and Bob Layton, tells the story of Beyonder, a cosmic unit that is fascinated by the heroes and villains living in the Marvel universe. He is determined to find out who is the best superpower of them all, he transports them to a distant galaxy to fight in a world called * ahem * battleworld.
As for the limited series from Hickman and artist Esad Ribić, it involves the destruction of Marvel Multiverse because of an intrusion – a cataclysmic event that causes different universes to crash and destroy each other. The fragments of these realities that are left are sewn together to form a new version of Battleworld, which is controlled by the Emperor of God -iteration by the amazing Fire’s iconic scouring doctor Victor von Doom.
With Robert Downey Jr set to play Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) version of Doom, it seems likely that it is likely that it Avengers: Secret Wars Will primarily draw from Hickman and Ribic’s cartoon. So much is made even clearer by the fact that we have been introduced to the penetration of other Marvel movies, such as Doctor Strange 2too, so this will not be a foreign concept for cinemas when Judgment Day and Secret wars is released.
However, this does not mean that we can discard the story from the 80s. This cartoon saw the introduction of Spider-Man’s classic black suit that paved the way for Venom in the comics. With Spider-Man 4 squeezed between the next two Avengers movies, Judgment Day could pick up a loose plot wire from Spider-Man: No way home – ie. a piece of Venom’s strangers Symbiote that is back in a bar – we could see it tying to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker who may be using the said black suit in Secret wars. When looking further forward, it can also set the scene for Spider-Man 5which could explore Parker’s dark side, liberation from Symbiote suit and even lead to the creation of MCU’s poison.
It’s just the tip of the iceberg, but I refrain from pampering something else about both comics and their Marvel Phase 6 movie names. Main photography on Judgment Day Apparently begins in April, so don’t be surprised if we start hearing more rumors about its role and plot in the coming weeks and months.
