Western recognition of Palestine to dominate Unga

World leaders began to gather Monday for a UN General Assembly (Unga) session expected to be dominated by the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, rising Western recognition of Palestinian state and nuclear tensions with Iran as the organization marks its 80 -year anniversary.

“It is an important session that marks the UN 80 -year anniversary,” said Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s permanent representative of the UN, adding that the Pakistani delegation, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, will play an active role in regional and global issues.

UN Secretary General António Guterres warned: “We gather in turbulent, even undamaged, waters,” and said that international cooperation was “strained under pressure unprecedented in our lifetime.”

More than 150 heads of state or the government, along with dozens of ministers, will participate in the general high -level debate beginning on September 23, when US President Donald Trump will be among the first speakers.

Security and participation

Prime Minister Shehbaz, who arrives in New York this afternoon, will turn to the 193 members Assembly on September 26, his third performance before the body. His speech will, according to a foreign office statement, cover the crisis in Gaza, the right to self -determination in Indian illegally occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), climate change and other global concerns.

In the case of climate change, the Pakistani leader will present Pakistan’s perspective and emphasize the need for urgent global action. PM Shehbaz participates in several high-level events on the sidelines of the Unga Session, including Meetings of the UN Security Council, high-level meeting in the Global Development Initiative and a special high-level event on climate measures.

“He will also attend a meeting with selected Islamic leaders with US President Trump to exchange views on issues of regional and international peace and security,” said the Foreign Office.

The Prime Minister holds bilateral meetings with several world leaders and senior UN officials to exchange views on key issues. He will emphasize Pakistan’s decision to work with all UN Member States to maintain the UN -Charter, prevent conflict, promote peace and promote global prosperity in Pakistan’s current role as a member of the Security Council.
