Episodes 1-3 of Maxton Hall season 2 landed on Prime Video with a bang last week, threatening the relationship between James (Damian Hardung) and Ruby (Harriet Herbig-Matten) in a whole new way.
James has dealt with the fact that his mother is dead (something we discovered back in Season 1), but he’s dealt with it poorly by partying, drinking, taking drugs, and sleeping with girls who are definitely not his girlfriend. Instead of accepting that he needs help, he lashes out at everyone close to him and in turn pushes them away.
However, at the end of episode 3, James is actively working to change his behavior patterns. He starts therapy, quits drinking, and vows to win back Ruby’s trust by doing whatever he can, including helping her organize a high-profile trustee gala at school—but things start to go wrong.
