Meta is known for offering many apps, but not many of them support the iPad. However, that is changing now, at least for someone who makes messaging and voice calls across the globe to a breeze.
It’s Real-WhatsApp is now full size of the iPad as the latest building that hit Apple’s App Store brings support to Apple’s tablet. It’s come for a long time and WhatsApp even beats Instagram to the punch.
While the release notes for the latest Build, 25.16.81, do not mention anything special, this fresh piece of code provides support for the iPad. Once you have updated, it will stretch and fill the screen correctly on an iPad approach, iPad Mini or both sizes of the iPad Pro or iPad Air.
You can respond to messages, share your iPados screen on a call and video chat with up to 32 other people. WhatsApp even published a blog post describing the expected arrival.
It is still the classic messaging experience that WhatsApp has offered, but there is an important change from the iPhone version. WhatsApp now has a two-column layout that allows you to see the contacts’ names and group cats on the left and the messages to the selected chat to the right. So it is very similar to how Apple’s own message -app uses the larger screen property.
Maybe even better news for iPad fans, the team at Meta has baked in support of multitasking on iPad. This way you can divide the screen to have WhatsApp on one side or have it to the fluid third app. It should make it easier to respond to messages and keep an eye on larger grouping chats.
The app also works with the magic keyboard and the Apple pencil, so you can use the latter to write a message and send it within WhatsApp.
Now a WhatsApp app for iPad has been rumored for quite a long time but expectations built up earlier this week, then App responded to a post on x (formerly twitter) With a set of looking eyes. Less than a day later, the app is here and it has wondered which meta can fall on the iPad next.
It is likely that Instagram is another app in Meta’s wheelhouse that iPad users want support for, so WhatsApp will hopefully show that it is in the works as well.
The WhatsApp team also promises that this is just the start of its journey on the iPad, looking forward to feedback from users.
