- Whoop releases new hardware for the first time since 2021
- It has revealed its new whoop 5.0 and whoop mg wearables
- Both have 14-day battery life, ECG, blood pressure monitoring and more
The Whoop has announced two brand new wearables and a new subscription price structure as the company isheriting its first new hardware since 2021.
Whoop 5.0 and Whoop MG are both slim screenless laptops with 14-day battery life, ECG and even blood pressure estimates.
Whoop CEO and founder Will Ahmed said the move was not only a product launch but “a new chapter for Whoop and for our members.”
A new Whoop Healthspan with ‘Whoop Age’ feature gives you insight into how your daily habits affect your long -term health, which quantifies your physiological age using nine measurements to give you data that can slow down your aging pace. It sounds like the ‘fitness age’ or ‘metabolic age’ used by the best Garmin watches and some of the best fitness trackers.
The new FDA-Cleared ECG allows you to read anytime from your wrist and share it with your healthcare provider, with a heart screen tool that can detect signs of atrial fibrillation and give irregular heart rhythm messages.
A headline is blood pressure insight, with new patent -feature technology that can deliver daily with estimated systolic (the first number in a blood pressure reading) and diastolic reading (the second number).
There is also support for women’s hormonal insight, sleep performance and a new sleep result and the usual myriad of health tracking functions.
Whoop 5.0 and MG: Explained
To understand the difference between WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG devices, you need to understand Whoop’s new subscription structure. That’s because the devices come for free with each plan, but the amount you pay determines which model you get.
Maybe more irregularly, some standard 5.0 features are not available at the cheaper level.
- Whoop one: The cheapest level that is said to contain ‘professional fitness insight at our best price’ at £ 169 / $ 199 / au $ 299 per Year
- Whoop Peak: Said to contain ‘Advanced Health, Fitness and Longevity Insights Designed to help you
- Whoop Life: Described as ‘the most powerful whoop ever, provides medical quality health and performance insight’ priced at £ 349 / $ 359 / AU $ 629 per Year
WHOOP MG (MG stands for ‘medical quality’) has the aforementioned heart screener, ECG and blood pressure insights. MG is only available at Whoop Life, the most expensive level.
WHOOP 5.0 does not include these medical features and comes with Whoop One or Whoop Peak memberships, the two cheaper levels.
Whoop told Techradar that the Whoop One membership gives you access to core metrics such as tribe, improvement, sleep, VO2 max, heartbeat, steps and more. It also includes a strength trainer and recovery metrics as well as sleep tracking. At Whoop One you get Whoop 5.0 and a basic charger as well as a Coreknit band.
Whoop Peak gives you Whoop 5.0, but with more features. It includes health monitor and stress monitor, which allows you to see if your vitals are out of reach. Peak also gives you a health span with Whoop Age and you get the wireless powerpack and a nicer super -knit band. There is no hardware difference between Whoop Peak and Whoop One: It simply locks the extra features behind an additional payment wall that Fitbit Premium.
As noted, Whoop Life is the most expensive level and gets you the more Premium Whoop MG with the aforementioned medical quality health functions. You get an even more premium band and a wireless powerpack to your device.
Analysis: Risk backlash?
In a Wearables market where even Garmins $ 6 Connect+ subscription has been greeted with user wars, WHOOP customers who have been waiting for these new devices may well be disappointed with the fact that the WHOOP reserves the best features of its devices for its most expensive subscription levels.
Whoop MG is at least basically a separate device, but buying a Whoop 5.0 on the cheapest level, only to miss some features that are ubiquitous to the best smartwatches on the market is a tough pill to swallow.
