- Garmin -Index Sleep Monitor is quickly becoming an open secret
- A regional arm of Garmin reportedly released a video in a minute with the device
- The video was quickly taken down but Gadgets & Wearables managed to get a few screens
The fact that Garmin enters the best Sleep Tracker run with a new product said to be called the Garmin Index Sleep Monitor is no more news. Several leaks in the last two weeks have anything but confirmed the existence of the product. But this time the leak has apparently come from Garmin himself, as it published – then quickly taken down – a video with the product. The call comes from inside the house!
First reported by Gadgets & Wearables, a regional arm of Garmin first sent the video. The report does not mention which region and as the video is taken down, we are unable to work back to the YouTube channel that originally sent it.
Nevertheless, Gadgets & Wearables apparently seized some screens of the video before it was removed, which showed the device in action. The recordings show a portable heart rate monitor associated with the user’s upper arm via a velcro strap, designed only to be carried during sleep. It is not a Screenless Fitness Tracker in Whoop-style as previously assumed. You can see these pictures in the link above.
Gadgets & Wearables confirm that the device will pack a vibrating smart alarm as well as a seven-day battery life and Garmin’s usual package of data collected by its optical heartbeat monitor and sensor arrays.
These include heartbeat, heart rhythm variability and skin temperature as well as a new metric called breathing variation. This is probably a step towards the recording of occurrences of sleep apnea.
Garmin’s great efforts on sleep
We reported earlier leaks that the unit probably cost 170 euros, about $ 200 / £ 150 / AU $ 300. That’s a lot of money for an add-on device that does something your Garmin watch can already do, it’s not a fitness tracker too.
It is said that the Interface with Garmin Connect in the same way as your watch, so the intention is likely to carry your watch during the day and the more accurate index -sleep monitor at night.
As a Sleep-Only Tracker, the upper arm allows the positioning of more accurate heart rate readings, but we are particularly interested in the Sleep Apnea feature. Apple debuted with its sleep apnea messages on the best Apple Watches last year, and Samsung has gone hard asleep with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Ring.
Your bed quickly becomes the next big wearables limit. We know more for sure about the Garmin Index Sleep Monitor when launched – and if promotional materials have already been leaked, it can’t be far away.
