This month, the three-year anniversary of Riley Gaines’ infamous draw with Lia Thomas marks in 2022 NCAA Women’s Swimming Championships.
At that time, Thomas, formerly known as Will Thomas, was hailed by liberals as the next “civil rights icon” in sports, doing sit-down interviews with ESPN, NBC News and “Good Morning America.”
Gaines was a hopeful dentist who had to wait to hoist his own trophy until Thomas finished photoops.
By 2025 things are different.

After a failed bid to qualify for Paris -ol, Thomas is the subject of several lawsuits against NCAA, Ivy League and University of Pennsylvania, led by Gaines and other female swimmers who had to share areas with Thomas. Penn is also under investigation of the Department of Education for Potential Violations of Title IX.
Gaines is now being hailed as a sports rights icon of sports rights by Conservatives with a proposed bill named after her progress through the legislature of Georgia, the site of her 2022 slips with Thomas.
Other states have taken their own steps to prevent the integration of transgender people into women’s sports, and President Donald Trump signed an executive order to ban it at national level. Data shows that the majority of Americans have become against transsexual inclusion in women’s and girls sports, and that the issue even affected voters in the 2024 election.
“I think we should send a taknotat to people like Will Thomas, I really do, signed and sealed by me. I want to sign Taknote, I want to write it because I think he handed us the election,” Gaines told Pakinomist Digital.
How transgenderism in sports changed the election in 2024 and ignited a national counterculture
“There was a lot that was wrong with Joe Biden, his administration and the Democratic Party as a whole out of sporting things … But this was the perfect visual. It’s like South Park episode … It painted the image that many of us were concerned about for a while but made it a reality.”
ONE National Exit Poll Made by the affected women for America Legislative Action Committee found that 70% of moderate voters saw the issue of “Donald Trump’s resistance to trans -bright boys and men playing girls and women’s sports and by transient boys and men using girls and women’s bathrooms” as important to them. In addition, 6% said it was the most important question of all, while 44% said it was “very important.”
And Trump surpassed polling among women, especially young women.

As much as Gains want to thank Thomas for being aware of the question, she also feels sympathy for the athlete and has even tried to express this sympathy for Thomas.
“I’ve reached several times, especially first.

“So originally I reached out in the hope of having a conversation to explain me more and express my excuses for having felt like I did. And as I said, it hurts me to say it.”
Thomas has not responded to Pakinomist Digital’s request for comment.
If Gaines and Thomas Rentended today, Gaines may be less apologetic. But even then, she still hopes to offer Thomas some postponement.
“Of course, I still want to welcome conversation, but it wouldn’t be in a way that apologizes for feeling the way I do. It would be in a way that I could of course be constructive and encourage Thomas to get to the side of common sense,” she added. “But there is not shaking in my voice. I don’t apologize for anything.”
Since Thomas’ ascension in 2022, other transient athletes have attracted similar national controversy and political involvement, including former San Jose State University – Volleyball player Blaire Fleming and openly transcend track and field runner Sadie Schreiner.

And although Gaines are against these athletes who are allowed to participate in sports with biological women, she sees them as victims of a movement to enable transking athletes in women’s sports.
“I also see them as victims. I really do. They have become a victim of the movement. Unfortunately, they have fallen for the lie that they were not created unique and intentionally in God’s perfect image. And it’s a terrible message to send to someone,” Gaines said.
Fleming was thrown into the national limelight in the fall, after several opponents lost when litigation was filed in which he claimed that the school detained Fleming’s birth sex from teammates.
The situation caused Trump to comment on Fleming while campaigning in October during a Pakinomist City Hall event.

Like Upenn with Thomas, SJSU is also now under investigation of the Department of Education for his handling of Fleming.
Unlike Thomas, Fleming’s gender identity was an alleged hidden secret because the volleyball player has no known story of competing in men’s or boys sports. Thomas competed at Upenn’s men’s team two years before switching to women.
Schreiner became one of the first known losses of Trump’s recent executive order. After NCAA changed, the gender eligibility policy to prevent biological men from competing in women’s competition to comply with Trump’s order, Schreiner’s School, the Rochester Institute of Technology, told Pakinomist Digital that the athlete would not compete in future competitions.
Then Schreiner defeated a handful of teenage female opponents in the US Track and Field Open Masters Championships last weekend.
“I have my own thoughts about the behavior of these men,” Gaines said. “I definitely think there is a level of narcissism. I think there is a level of right and total ignoring for everyone else around these people. But in the end, I think they are also victims, which is the sad reality of the gender ideology movement.
“The gender ideology movement is devastating to everyone, except the people who benefit from it. … It’s the greatest medical scandal this world has ever seen.”
