The first full moon in the spring, known as Pink Moon, rises on Friday, April 12, 2025 and offers a spectacular view of North America and beyond.

Although it does not actually appear pink, the moon’s name comes from the pink phlox flowers that bloom in early spring, signaling the arrival of the season.

It will rise in the eastern sky just an hour before the top of the full moon in some regions, making this a rare occurrence.

The best time to see the pink moon will be during its climb right after sunset when it looks bigger and more vibrant because of a phenomenon called “Moon Illusion.” This optical illusion makes the moon look bigger and brighter as it rises over the horizon.

For those in eastern North America, including New York and Los Angeles, the moon will rise close to sunset. In New York, Sunset is at. 19.32 EDT, with Moonrise at. 19.31 Edt.

In Los Angeles, sunset will occur at. 19.22 pdt, and the moon rises at. 19.26 pdt. Meanwhile, in London, the moon rises at. 20.52 BST Sunday 13 April after sunset at. 19.53
