- Windows 10’s July Update broke part of Emoji Picker
- This is a panel that allows you to choose from a huge library with emoji
- Search function is broken, making it more difficult to navigate this width
Windows 10’s latest update (until July) has broken part of the Emoji panel in us, Microsoft has confirmed.
If you are not familiar with Emoji Picker, it is invoked by pressing the Windows key with the full stop (period) key and it consists of a compact panel full of emojier that you can choose from. These can then be inserted directly into your active app (eg Word, for example, if you want to add some emojis in a document you are working on).
The error does not prevent the voter from appearing – the problem is that the search function no longer works. After the latest update to Windows 10, no matter what emoji you are looking for, get some results – the operating system will return a ‘we could not find this one’ message (or similar error).
This means that there are no shortcuts to find the emojis you want – you just have to hunt through the (significantly hefty) content of the panel.
Windows last noticed that Microsoft confirmed the error of Windows Release Health Dashboard and said: “After the July Security Update installation (KB5062554), Windows Emoji Panel finds no results in Windows 10, version 22H2.”
The company says it is working on a solution that will be implemented in a future Windows 10 update. Remember, there are not many of those left before updates stop to end (other than those who choose the expansion program, which was recently improved by Microsoft thanks to the addition of a non-paying option).
Windows 10’s ending will be in October 2025, in case you missed this.
Analysis: face with rolling eyes
A surprising number of people complain about this broken functionality. I say surprisingly, because it’s not a feature I’ve ever used, but clearly, there are a whole lot of Windows 10 users who still depend on emoji picker and that losing the search feature is a big downer, I can see that.
Those who issued their frustrations over the error on Reddit confirmed earlier that removal of the July update healed the problem, and now Microsoft has of course admitted the question itself.
What is puzzling me here is that as mentioned, Windows 10 has only a few months of shelf life left. And then, at this stage of the game, with the retirement of us waving, why does Microsoft draw on any threads in the system that can cause something to loosen in this way? I don’t know, and yes, I don’t develop an operating system; It is a huge complex business full of headaches and I should probably keep chain as there is no doubt Causes.
It still seems pretty weird, right? Windows 10 is done, no features are added, and yet there are still errors in the works in recent times – and Odd Glitches too (what would cause emoji search to suddenly go down in flames, I can’t start imagining).
Without a doubt, we have time back to a last hurray in a future update to get another mistake (or maybe a couple, even, you never know your luck).
If you are listening to the operating system’s conspiracy theorists (yes, they exist), this is Microsoft, who participates in a smart plot to annoy you to finally make the upgrade to Windows 11. Although if it was the detailed plan, the software giant might have sabotaged a more important facet of Windows 10 interface (like the starting menu, Ahem).
