- Microsoft has started a new set of Windows 11 -PreView -Builds in Testing
- These will have “Behind the scenes platform changes” for us
- Rumors say Microsoft will adhere to the current Germanium platform snarers than switching to a brand new base for Windows 11 and it should mean fewer bugs
Microsoft is likely to change to work on the next big update to Windows 11, which would be 25h2, based on rumors and what’s going on with the latest preview -Build.
Microsoft has even told us that the new builds in the 26200 series, which are now in the DEV channel for testing, are still based on the 24h2-the current version of Windows 11-but that it will “make behind the scenes platform changes in these buildings”, which may mean that they have different problems for the 24h2 building in the Beta channel (a later branch of testing).
According to Windows Central’s Zac Bowden, which regularly shares rumors that relate to what is going on at Microsoft, these DEV buildings are “probably” about laying the “early basis for version 25h2”, which is of course due to land later in 2025.
So in other words, the Beta channel will continue to get buildings based solely on 24h2, while the DEV channel now gets changes under the hood to set the stage for 25h2 (probably).
Bowden also notes that the changes in the underlying platform Windows 11 are built on – the scattered mass of code you never see, but is glued that holds all the bits you interact with – will incorporate the changes needed for Qualcomm’s inbound Snapdragon X2 chip.
These changes have already been introduced in the Canary Channel, apparently – which is the earliest test channel before DEV – and now they come to the DEV channel, indicating that Microsoft is progressing toward making the finished version of Windows 11 compatible with devices powered by Snapdragon X2 CPU.
These devices, which are expected to initiate a new Snapdragon X Elite Gen 2 processor, will arrive later in 2025 with this new version of Windows 11, in theory.
Analysis: Stay with Germanium?
You remember Windows 11 24H2 being built on a brand new underlying platform, called Germanium by Microsoft. The big switch with the foundation of Windows 11 was made to ensure compatibility with arm chips (and to improve OS’s performance and the overall security) and the first generation of Snapdragon X processors.
It was, however, one Fight Move, while the work, now being joined to be started, is apparently about fine-tuning Germanium for Snapdragon X2-It is not a total change of platform, but a refinement of what was introduced last year. Or at least that’s what Bowden feels is the most likely scenario, although it is still possible that Microsoft could switch to another platform with 25H2, recognizes the delicious.
If it is true that Microsoft is sticking with Germanium, this is important because one of the reasons Windows 11 24h2 has been so buggy, this migration is due to the brand new (at the time) Germanium, which I believe caused a pretty uprising in the inner work of Microsoft’s OS. And that is why some of the many errors we have seen with the 24H2 update have been so weird (in my opinion – of course it takes caution).
Because Windows 11 25H2 will not be such a big move, it must be much more smooth implemented and less buggy in general – at least in theory, and it is a hope I expect many people to hold on to now.
At the same time, we have to look at fear that the poor driving of bugs can continue, either because there are just so many to play out, this firefighter has not run his way – or that Microsoft will change away from Germanium, which in turn can mean more than the usual proportion of bugs that wings our way.
Given how 24h2 has paneled terribly terrible for Bugs, Microsoft, Microsoft will be in a risky morality here.
