- Windows 11 could give you the opportunity to set a video file as your wallpaper
- The setting has been viewed in a preview of the operating system
- It would repeat a similar feature that was available in Windows Vista
Windows 11 could give you the opportunity to set a video file as a taped to your deskbased on clues in tests.
Windows Central noted This dishonest leaks, Phantomofearth, have once again dived into preview -Builds of Windows 11 and found the functionality of choosing a video file as a background.
You can see how it works in the post below on X showing an MP4 video selected as a wallpaper.
Windows DreamScene is back! Hidden in the latest Windows 11 Dev/Beta Build (26×20.6690) is built to support the setting of video files such as .mp4 as your desktop background: pic.twitter.com/b4vdtfvqscSeptember 20, 2025
It is possible to use any common video file format (not only MP4, but also MOV, AVI, WMV and more), and the clip is played when you see the desk, apparently (not looping again and again as it could be annoying, without a doubt).
However, remember that this is hidden in testing in the current DEV and Beta Builds of Windows 11 (and enabled via a Windows configuration tool), so we don’t know how it works when Microsoft officially implement it in Preview – or actually whether it will ever go live in testing. The idea can simply be abandoned.
The return of an old friend
As the leaks point out, video backgrounds were part of Windows Vista for those who forking out to the ultimate version (as part of the functionality called Windows DreamScene). Video backgrounds have been missed in the Windows recipe for a long time, but it seems that Microsoft is at least considering reintroducing this ingredient.
Currently, if you want a video wallpaper, you are forced to use a third -party app (the wallpaper engine is often recommended or writing ball 11 from Stardock). However, it would be great to have this ability integrated directly into Windows 11, rather than having to rely on external software.
Okay, so not everyone wants a video background in any way, and there is already some concern that is expressed about how much in the way of resources this feature can consume.
It may be a particular concern for those who use Windows 11 on a laptop In terms of reducing the life of the battery, but if you do not want to run any such risks, you do not need to use video wallpaper. If this ever arrives at Windows 11 at all, that is, as mentioned, Microsoft may still scrape this idea.
Still with Fancy backgrounds and animations available on macOS -Including time sensitive Dynamic wallpapers – and different Linux DistrosIt looks like Microsoft wants to catch up. That said we’ve heard rumors about Dynamic (AI-driven) backgrounds in Windows 11 beforeWhich has come to nothing, so we just have to keep an eye on these preview -Builds.
