- Windows 11 could get ‘dynamic’ wallpaper driven by AI
- It is according to a delicious that has found clues in preview -Builds of us
- Microsoft has tried this idea in the past, mind before he gives up – but this time things will hopefully be different
Microsoft is reportedly thinking about introducing a kind of AI-driven wallpaper to Windows 11 (not for the first time I can add).
The well-known supplier of Microsoft-related gossip, Phantomofearth, recently posted on X to inform us of the work that is apparently in the process of producing ‘dynamic’ background for Windows 11.
Microsoft is working on the AI -Desktop -Background Things Once again, this time: “Dynamic Background” “Your background is automatically updated based on your choices”June 23, 2025
What kind of dynamic background is planned exactly? It is not clear and we get no details of the exact nature of this feature, except that the tapestry “is automatically updated based on your choices”.
This info was dug up from recent preview buildings of Windows 11, and Windows latest highlighted the above post on X, observing that it was trying to uncover shifts to the said settings but could not. So it seems that it is still very early days for the potential capacity.
Analysis: To bring backgrounds to life
We must be particularly careful here because Microsoft has worked with dynamic (also known as ‘live’) backgrounds in the past and then scraped the idea. In fact, the concept of AI-driven background for Windows 11 has hovered around for a long time.
You can even remember that components for living backgrounds were present in Windows 11 23h2, hidden under the cap, for some time before being removed in 24h2, when Microsoft obviously thought better about the idea. Which I felt was rather a shame as some of these concepts looked so smart (you can see one of them in the above picture).
What we have here is a far more nebulous rumor, and thus the need for more than the usual help of caution. That said, Microsoft has been busy trying to clamp more and more AI in Windows 11, and for me this seems like an obvious enough area to grace with AI, bringing some extra fancy to your background (if you want it).
Know which I have not only smart dynamic wallpapers with regard to animated elements or parallax kinds of effects – which may well be part of the plan – but also to get AI to perform smart tricks, such as changing the appearance of a wallpaper based on the time of day, for example. (Like the forest leaf in MacOS Sequoia, where the lighting changes all day).
We are told that the background will update based on ‘selection’ you make, so there may be different options to turn on (or turn off), or maybe different background themes to choose from. With AI in the mixture, I guess that if this is the path Microsoft intends to travel down with wallpaper, we may be suggested background, which is eventually based on your habits in Windows (if you allow AI access to this data, of course).
However, all this is left to see, and although this rumor is correct right now, Microsoft has not yet better think of the idea down the line as it is done in the past. The obvious disadvantage with more detailed ideas for backgrounds is the increased drainage of system resources compared to static background, which will be a particular area of concern for minor-specs PCs. On these machines, however, you simply cannot use dynamic wallpapers.
