Islamabad:
A judicial magistrate on Thursday sent the arrested Quaid-in-Zam University (QAU) students to imprisonment in a 14-day legal custody in connection with a case registered over their rejection of leaving hostels. The court also instructed the students to be produced again on August 13.
Court Magistrate Mureed Abbas presided for the hearing where police presented the retained students. Student’s legal team opposed the custody and sought the students’ discharge.
Attorney Riasat Ali Azad claimed that 29 students were in police custody and that the charges were largely firm, without mentioning weapons in FIR, which primarily referred to slogan. “This case does not guarantee a custody prison; it guarantees a discharge,” he said. Gujar questioned the university’s handling of the case: “Even tenants are served messages before postponement. These are students who could be future lawyers, judges and politicians.”
The defense attorneys criticized the investigation and pointed out no evidence of snapping or injuries and accusing the authorities of tongue -in -law, including the barrier of lawyers from meeting the students. Attorney Imaan Mazari claimed the police mismatch and claimed that officers were trying to drive over lawyers with a vehicle and failed to show respect for the court.
However, the university’s lawyer, Raja Zahoorul Hassan, argued that the detainees were not real students, but outsiders involved in illegal activities. During his arguments, students shouted “shame, shame,” which got the court’s dissatisfaction.
The prosecution requested a 10-day physical custody, but the court sent all the retained students to the court-building and ordered their production again on August 13.
Outside the courtroom, tensions escalated when some lawyers allegedly surrounded and tried to attack the university’s lawyer, his son and the security, Colonel (Ret) Nadeem.
