WNBA -coach Ripper Trump for ‘attack’ on trans athletes

Wnba celebrated transgender Day of visibility Monday, and one of its coaches seemed to take a shot against President Donald Trump.

Minnesota Lynx Head coach Cheryl Reeve issued a statement that there have been “performing and legislative attacks” on trans -fun people.

“On this transient visibility day, a time of escalating performing and regulatory attacks trying to deny healthcare, education and basic freedoms; a time of epidemic violence, especially against black and brown trans Women celebrates we are celebrating trans and non-binary people everywhere. You are seen and loved,” says Reeve’s statement

The team also sent a photo of Reeve wearing a shirt that said “Protect Transchildren.”

The league posted at X on its support for transient people. It coincided with the last day of Women’s History Month. The post triggered reactions from women’s sports attorneys who have advanced title IX and the efforts to keep biological men out of girls and women’s sports.

Four years to the day of Reeve’s statement and the team’s post, Reeve wrote an up-ed in Sports Illustrated, “We win everyone when trans-athletes are included.”

“When we offer all Woman athletes, including transgender Woman -athletes, welcome to bring their full authentic even to the game, we are stronger as individual players and as a team,” she wrote. “Transgender exclusion creates female athletes against each other, reinforcing the harmful perception that there is only a real way of being a woman and distracting us from the real threats of women’s sports.”

Reeve also wrote that a transgender powerlifter that is prohibited to compete, “simply cannot stand.”

WNBA celebrated transgender Day of visibility more than a month after Trump signed “No Men Men In Women’s Sports” executive order in February. NCAA changed its genital participation policy but critics have pointed out loopholes in that.

There are no players in WNBA who are transferred from man to woman. Layshia Clarendon came out as non -binary by 2020.
