PESHAWAR:

As the world marks International Women’s Day, women serving in Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies are carving out space for themselves in fields once dominated by men. Among them is Sub-Inspector Laila Manan of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Peshawar Zone, who believes that dedication, courage and professionalism transcend gender.

Speaking about her journey in policing, Manan described wearing the uniform as both an honor and a responsibility. She said women officers today are proving their mettle in complex and demanding tasks, from investigations to field operations and public service.

Women have demonstrated that they can perform any duty expected of them in law enforcement, she said, noting that with commitment and proper support, women can stand shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts to protect society and uphold the law.

Manan emphasized that equal opportunities for women within institutions are essential to building a progressive and balanced society. According to her, when women are given the same chances to learn, lead and grow, they bring not only professionalism but also empathy and strong decision-making to their roles.

The sub-inspector stated that women are not only caretakers of families but are also strong pillars of the society. She added that women prove their resilience and determination in any profession, but what they need is confidence, encouragement and equal opportunities.

Over the past decade, the presence of women in Pakistan’s investigative and law enforcement agencies has gradually increased. In institutions like the FIA, women officers are now actively involved in tackling complex crimes including corruption, money laundering and human trafficking – areas that require patience, analytical skills and determination.

Manan noted that the FIA has made efforts to create a more inclusive environment that encourages women to pursue a career in the organization. The FIA values diversity and provides opportunities for women to grow as investigators, officers and leaders, she said.

Women should believe in their abilities and step forward with confidence, she said. Manan paid tribute to Pakistan’s women serving in various professions and stated that their perseverance and sacrifices continue to inspire the nation.

She further added that greater participation of women in law enforcement strengthens the system by bringing empathy, resilience and professionalism to the fore. For women who wanted to enter public service, Manan had a simple message: confidence, determination and equal opportunity can open doors to any field, including those once thought out of reach.
