World leaders respond to Indian attack against Pakistan

Several world leaders have expressed concern and called for restraint after India attacked Pakistan early Wednesday, led to an appropriate response from Islamabad’s armed forces.

The strikes mark a sharp escalation in tension between the nuclear armed neighbors. Pakistan reported eight fatalities and promised retaliation.

The international community quickly responded to development and called on both nations to avoid further escalation and prioritize dialogue.

US President Donald Trump

In a speech in the White House, President Donald Trump described India’s strikes as a “shame” and called for a quick ending to hostilities.

“They have fought for many, many decades and centuries, in fact, if you really think about it … I just hope it ends very quickly,” Trump said.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio

State Secretary Marco Rubio repeated Trump’s comments on social media.

“I monitor the situation between India and Pakistan closely. I repeat @Potus’s comments earlier today that this hopefully ends up quickly and will continue to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership against a peaceful decision.”

The Secretary General of the United Nations

A spokesman for UN Secretary General António Guterres said he is “very concerned” over India’s military actions across the control line.

“The Secretary -General requires maximum military restraint from both countries. The world cannot afford a military confrontation between India and Pakistan,” the statement states.

Japan

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi was strongly condemned on April 22.

“We express strong concern that this situation can escalate to a full -scale military conflict,” he said, calling on both nations to pursue stability through dialogue.

The United Arab Emirates

UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan called for restraint and shell.

“Diplomacy and dialogue continue to be the most effective means of peaceful to solve crises,” the UAE government said in a statement.

France

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot recognized India’s right to self-defense, but warned against further escalation.

“We urge both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint … and to protect civilians,” he said on TF1 -TV.

China

China’s Foreign Ministry called India’s actions “regrettable” and called on both sides to act in regional peace.

“Stay calm, exercise restraint and refrain from taking actions that can further complicate the situation,” the spokesman said.

Russia

Russia’s Foreign Ministry said it is “deeply concerned” and urged both countries to avoid further escalation.

“We urge both India and Pakistan to show restraint,” read a statement from Moscow.
