When Wyatt Hendrickson defeated Gable Stevenson for NCAA Heavyweight Wrestling Championship on Sunday, people didn’t cry about how big a disturbance it was.
“It was definitely the biggest rebellion in amateur history,” WWE legend and Olympic wrestling gold medal Kurt Angle recently told Pakinomist Digital.
“It certainly goes up there with the Miracle Hockey Team and Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson, determined.”

It’s a whole honor, but Angle doesn’t just say that. He is well versed in the Wrestling world as an Olympic champion, world champion and NCAA master.
Angle even cited the big herb Brooks when he discussed the fight.
“If they fought 100 times, 99 times, Gable Stevenson would have beaten him, not only beat him, but beat him nicely,” said Angle. “This was just a freakish evening. It was Wyatt Hendrickson’s evening and I give him a lot of credit. He didn’t stop fighting and it shows the kind of strength he has. I’m sure he got it from the air defense.”
Hendrickson, another lieutenant, greeted President Donald Trump after the victory, after being killed with an American flag, thought it was as if it were out of a movie.

“He came out with the American flag on, Mr. America – I know it wasn’t, but it’s almost like it was resolved as if it were a movie. It was crazy,” Joked Angle. “President Trump is there and congratulates Wyatt after he wins. You couldn’t write a better screenplay for a movie.”
Angle also speculated that Hendrickson would simply have the match more, considering Stevenson’s already impressive resume.
“I think Gable was like ‘Hi, I won the Olympics I’ve won NCAAS I’m good.’ It wasn’t like he had this extra fire inside him like Wyatt Hendrickson, ”Angle said. “This was a freak thing – I give wyatt a lot of credit, he fought hard. But gables levels over wyatt, rightly. But I give Wyatt credit, he made it happen.”
Stevenson has tried his hand at WWE, which even appeared with Angle in 2022. He even signed with Buffalo Bills last year but did not do the team. Angle said that if he tried again this year, he would quiet the team, but he has another prediction for Stevenson, whom he has already called “one of the greatest” in wrestling history.

“I think Gable Stevenson will be a formidable fighter in MMA, whether UFC or Bellator or whatever it is,” Angle said. “He becomes an MMA fighter, and if he is fighting in the UFC, I think you will see a new UFC master. Gable is that athletic. The children are amazing. For him to be in a heavyweight division and be as athletic as he is, it is nothing less than astonishing. The children are just talented left and right, there is no doubt about it.”
