Oakmont Country Club made the decision to ban PGA Tour Pro Wyndham Clark from playing on his course after injuring the dressing room at this year’s USA Open.

While Clark hopes to return to the historic Pennsylvania Club, he understands the ban in place.

“It’s up to them,” Clark said via ESPN after completing his last round at Royal Portrush in Open on Sunday. “I really don’t know. I hope that. It’s a great course and place, but it’s up to them.

“I did something terrible and I am really sorry. Hopefully they have it in their heart to forgive me, and maybe in the future I will be able to play there.”

John Lunch, Oakmont Country Club President, sent a letter to members before Open began in Northern Ireland and said Clark was banned after discussions with the United States Golf Association (USGA) and the club board.

“Several of you have asked about the situation involving Wyndham Clark and the steps taken in response to his recent behavior,” Lynch’s letter read. Espn. “After several discussions with the USGA and the OCC board, a decision has been made that Mr. Clark is no longer authorized for OCC property.

“This decision will remain in force unless formally reconsidered and approved by the Board of Directors.”

The letter also noted that Clark could be allowed to play on Oakmont again if he pays for the injuries he has provided, makes a “meaningful contribution” to a charity elected by the OCC board and reviews advice and/or anger handling therapy.

Clark said he has seen the requirements and has reached them about them.

“Obviously it’s a no-brainer to pay for the damage. It was a given,” Clark said. “Then, obviously all excuses, and I will give back to society because I have hurt a good place in Pittsburgh, so I would do everything I can to show them that what happened was not a reflection of who I am and will not happen again.”

Meanwhile, Clark said he “hoped it would be private” instead of seeing a letter being sent to all Oakmont members.

It will be quite a long time until Oakmont hosts a major again as it is scheduled to be home to the 2033 US Open. It will also be the last year in Clark’s 10-year exemption from the tournament after winning it at the Los Angeles Country Club in 2023.
