Kansas City Chief’s wide recipient Xavier Worthy will not be charged after his arrest Friday, Williamson County District Attorney told Austin American-Statesman on Saturday.

Worthy was arrested in Texas Friday for an alleged assault, according to online prison registers.

Registrations indicated an attack on a family or household member where the alleged victim’s breathing was limited. According to the Texas Act, the charge is a third-degree crime that can be punished by up to 10 years in prison.

However, district attorney Shawn Dick said after talking to several witnesses, the Williamson County authorities will not push charges.

“After further investigation by Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and further discussion with a third-party witness, Mr. Worthy and his lawyers, this case is taken at this time pending the end of the investigation by Williamson County Sheriff’s Office,” Dick said in an email, according to the outlets.

“Mr. Worthy and his lawyers fully cooperate with this investigation.

“We will continue to evaluate the matter. As our practice of all falls, if you develop additional information indicating a probable cause in this case, our office will consider this information and may present the matter at that time to a Grand Jury in Williamson County.”

Shortly after the news of the arrest appeared, lawyers Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett released a statement on Worthy’s behalf, claiming his innocence.

“We are aware of the claim that led to Mr. Worthy’s arrest, ”said the statement obtained by Associated Press. “We work with law enforcement in Williamson County to make sure they have the benefit of the whole of circumstances leading to this claim.”

The lawyers argued that the “complainant” refused to leave Worthy’s home despite several requests. Worthy’s representatives also claimed that the alleged victim was trying to extort the NFL star and described the claim against their client as “baseless.”

“The complainant was repeatedly asked for the past two weeks to leave Mr. Worthy’s residence in the discovery of her adultery, for which a private investigator has video vision. She has refused to leave the residence and made a number of extensive efforts before resorting to this baseless claim against Mr. Worthy.”

According to the statement, Worthy’s property was damaged and he was subjected to bodily damage. The Chiefs recipient also informed the authorities that he was not to pressure charges, according to the statement.
