- Xiaomi has revealed that the upcoming chipset is 3NM
- It should put it in competition with the best smartphone chipset from Apple and Qualcomm
- This chipset is fully revealed on Thursday
Right now, the biggest names in the smartphone -chipset are Apple, Qualcomm and Medatek, and these are the only three companies that have so far made smartphone chipset using a 3NM (nanometer) process. But now Xiaomi is announcing a 3NM chipset of his own this week.
Posting on Weibo (via Technode) Xiaomis CEO has revealed that its Xring 01 chips will be revealed on Thursday and that it – exciting – uses a 3NM process.
As a general rule, the less the number there is, the more powerful the chipset and being 3NM must put Xring 01 in competition with them like the A18 Pro, which runs the iPhone 16 Pro series and the Snapdragon 8 elite that operates the Samsung Galaxy S25 line. In short, this should be an extremely powerful chipset.
Of course, we do not know exactly how powerful until we have put it to the test, but early benchmarks discovered by Leaker @universeice suggests it could give the above chipset a race for their money.
An affordable alternative
It can be a big thing as it can allow Xiaomi to more affordable to equip its phones with top-end chipset and there is a chance that these savings could be transferred to consumers.
In the unlikely case that Xring 01 surpasses Snapdragon 8 elite, it would also be the most powerful chipset available for Android phones – and if Xiaomi keeps it exclusive to its own handsets, it can give the company a real edge.
Even if it is really as powerful as benchmarks suggest, it may of course have problems, such as not being overly energy efficient. But no matter what, Xiaomi is the first Chinese company in the mainland to hit 3NM benchmark, is still a remarkable moment for smartphones.
We should have a clearer idea of its real capacity on Thursday, when Xiaomi fully describes the chipset and an even clearer idea once we have tested it for ourselves.
