The fighting New York Yankees has taken another major loss, this time on the injury front.
Start Pitcher Clarke Schmidt will “probably” demand Tommy John surgery, manager Aaron Boone said on Saturday according to the New York Post.
Tommy John Surgery would sideline Schmidt for the rest of this season and probably all next season.

Schmidt, 29, has emerged as a key starter for Yankees this season as he has a 3.32 era in 14 games started this season. He recently set the franchise plate with 28 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings.
If Schmidt actually needs Tommy John operation, it will be the second time that the right-handed jug has undergone the operation in his career. Schmidt reviewed Tommy John Surgery in May 2017, just a month before Yankees chose him in the first round of the MLB draft out of South Carolina.
“Every time you get an MRI of your forearm, or whatever the body part, you don’t feel happy about it,” Schmidt said before learning the results of the test.
Schmidt was originally placed on IL with the tenderness of the right forearm, which he said began in his 4th June outing against Cleveland Guardians.

Schmidt beat only three laps in the team’s losses to Toronto Blue Jay’s Thursday. He allowed three earned races on four hits in these three laps before leaving the game due to injury.
With the loss of Schmidt in the foreseeable future, Yankee’s starting rotation is in disarray.
Max Fried and Carlos Rodon are a formidable one-two punch, but after them the rotation is full of question marks.
Ryan Yarbough is on the wounded list of an oblique injury and he has not started to throw. Government of Al Rookie of the Year, Luis Gil, threw himself to men for the first time on June 21 when he rudes from a lat injury.

Marcus Stroman has started two starts since he came out of IL with a knee injury, but he can’t depend on as he has a 7.45 era in five starts this season. Rookie Will Warren has shown flashes of brilliance, but has struggled at times as he has a 5.02 era in 18 games.
Yankees urges Cam Schlittler to replace Schmidt in the rotation, according to a New York Post report.
Schlittler has a 3.52 era in 15 games (14 starts) across double-A and triple-a this season.

Fried, Rodon, Stroman, Warren and Allegedly Schlittler are currently constituting the rotation of a floundering Yankees team that has lost five in a row.
Yankees fell out of first place for the first time since April and tracks Toronto Blue Jays with two matches.
Yankees (48-40) seems to be jumping back and clicking on their losing row as they go to the New York Mets (51-38) in the second game in their three-game series on Saturday at. 16:10 et.
