New York Yankees will remain obliged to push diversity and inclusion into the organization despite national rollbacks of dei, including in MLB, an official said Tuesday.
“We are constantly working with the members of our diversity and inclusion committees and are actively involved with our neighbors and community partners,” Senior Vice President of Business and Social Relations Brian Smith told New York Daily News on Jackie Robinson Day.
“Our dedication to these efforts remains unchanged and our diversity and inclusion committees continue to do its work.”

Yankees initially revealed the establishment of a Committee on Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) in February 2021.
MLB removed “diversity” references from its career page back in March. However, the career side still includes a reference to the inclusion and images of gay pride flags.
President Donald Trump has made Rolling back dei in the public and private sectors to an early priority of his period. “Our commitment remains consistent. We have been obliged to access our nearby society and we are still required to access our neighboring society,” Smith said.
“We think President Trump would be happy with our work because it creates the exact kind of opportunities that he focused on when he created an opportunity zone in the South Bronx in his first period.”

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred launched a diversity pipeline program in 2016, resulting in over 400 assisted employment.
In October 2023, a Federal Complaints about Civil Rights Was submitted to MLB for racial discriminatory programs by the nonprofit conservative organization for general interest, America First Legal, along with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The complaint claimed that the MLB’s official site presents at least four illegal employment and contracting programs with reference to the MLB Diversity Pipeline program, the Diversity Fellowship Program, Diversity in Ticket Sales Training Program and Miscellaneous Business Partners Program.

After an ownership meeting in Palm Beach, Florida, last month, Manfred announced that MLB assessed the interpretation of federal law.
“Our values, especially our values for diversity, remain unchanged. But another value that is pretty important to us is that we always try to comply with what the law is,” Manfred said. “There seems to be a development that is going on here. We are following it very carefully.
“Of course, when things get a little more settled, we investigate each of our programs and make sure that while the values remain the same as we are also in line with what the law requires.”
