- Meta’s Oakley glasses are ready for pre -order prior to a launch on July 22
- Glasses with limited edition cost $ 499 / £ 499 / AU $ 789
- Cheaper Oakley’s is set to arrive “Later this summer”
The wait is finally over. Meta’s Oakley Smart Glasses is finally available for pre -order prior to their launch on July 22, though there is a catch. Only its more expensive Limited Edition Hstn is available for now; Other designs come “later this summer” (it’s the Northern Hemisphere Summer for our Aussie readers, then later this month or August).
The limited edition Oakley Meta Hstn (pronounced How-Stuhn) is on pre-ordering on Meta..com for $ 499 / £ 499 / AU $ 789.
In addition to their abilities like regular glasses, these smart Glasses live up to the descriptor by boasting a camera that can capture 3K video (a higher resolution than the meta-beam glasses), built-in open ear speakers for music and hear what the Meta AI-Ledager has to tell you (as well as microphones so AI can hear you) and a battery that can last up to 8 hours for regular use (again, better than their ray Sibling).
With their charging case, these specifications can push up to an additional 48 hours of use.
Are you going to wait? Probably
Now I haven’t tested these glasses for myself, but I constantly wear my ray-ran smart glasses, and after my phone (and maybe my VR headset) they are easily the best gadget I own.
And these Oakley specifications are just ray-bans with another design, a few technical upgrades and unfortunately a higher price.
Things should get a little better in the coming month or so when the other Six Oakley Smart Glasses design is launched. For context they are:
- Oakley Meta Hstn Desert with Prizm Ruby -Lenses
- Oakley Meta Hstn Black with Prizm Polar Black Lenses
- Oakley Meta Hstn shiny brown with Prizm Polar Deep Water Lenses
- Oakley meta hstn black with transitions amethyst lenses
- Oakley Meta Hstn ready with transitions gray lenses
That’s because these specifications are set to introduce a new lower starting price of $ 399 / £ 399 / $ 629. However, this would still be higher than the cheapest beam forban for $ 299 / £ 299 / AU $ 449, and like Ray-Bans, I expect the Oakley specifications to be more expensive if you choose Snazzier-Ray-Bans / £ 329 / AU $ 489 for polarized and $ 379 / £ 379 / AU $ 59 lenses.
If you are an athlete, Oakley’s can be a valuable upgrade, especially with Prizm lenses set to a sport you play.

However, those of you who simply want to get the best smart glasses technology will may have to wait and see what Meta shows at Meta Connect in September, where it is expected to debut smart glasses with a screen.
Yes, they are likely to be very expensive, but they are also believed to offer a really next re-emergency-so if you are tempted to upgrade your beam beam and budget is not a problem, you might last a little longer (or be prepared to buy Oakley’s, and then another couple of meta-crisis).
