- AirPods Pro 2 Consultation Test that is now available in Australia
- It makes Apple’s earplugs for hearing aids
- Your AirPods Pro 2 must automatically update to give the new feature
When Apple announced a new consultation test for AirPods Pro 2 at its Glowtime event in September 2024, it was perhaps one of the biggest messages about the whole evening. Finally, finally, the hearing testing feature that can make AirPods Pro 2 for hearing aids as well as testing your consulting ability, made your way to Australia.
The firmware update is available now after the feature received the green approval power from Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
AirPods Pro 2 could already support an ear tip test to determine how well they mounted in your ears and they could tell you when your listening volume was realistic too high. But now they can support hearing aid technology in clinical quality that allows them to help them hear questions hearing speech and background sounds more clear.
Alongside the hearing aid technology, AirPods Pro 2 now supports two other features related to hearing: A five -minute consultation test that helps you better understand your hearing slope and a hearing protection mode that promises to remove loud noises around you when you wear the earbuds.
Australian users will have to take the hearing test first before they can use AirPods Pro 2 as hearing aids. The test involves listening to beeps and other sound colors in both left and right ears.
Listen, and you want to hear
I tried the test this morning when the news of the update rolling out in Australia broke. You will have to make sure you are in an incredibly calm environment, which after performing the test in my left ear, my iPhone told me that the background noise was too high to generate a result.
However, I was surprised at how difficult the test was. The beeps early in the test were clearly audible, but when I got on, I didn’t hear much – so I plan to test it again at a later time to see what my test result is.
An American colleague of me has previously led his father to end the hearing test, and he revealed that the results are grouped into categories, namely little or no loss, mild loss, moderate loss, serious loss and deep loss. AirPods Pro 2 can only be used as hearing aids if the result is mild for moderate loss.
Apple says the technology will “enable personalized dynamic adjustments so that users have the sounds around them filled and increased in real time.”
Results of hearing tests will be stored in the health app and you can re -enter the test when you like to map how your hearing changes over time (if at all). Consultation protection mode can be useful in environments such as concerts, to help lower the high volume and allow you to enjoy yourself without hurting your ears.
The next time you connect your AirPods Pro 2 to your iPhone, receive a pop-up message that informs you that the update has been used. All you have to do is go into the AirPods settings within your iPhone and you will see the opportunity to run the hearing test.
