- Asus makes a scent mouse with an essential oil room
- No prices have been announced but it is expected in April or May
- Asus announced last year a laptop with a scent dispenser
If you have ever wanted to improve the aroma of your work area, ASUS may have the answer: It works on a wireless computer mouse with a refillable fragrance room.
The idea is that you fill the perfumed peripheral with an aromatherapy oil of your choice. When using the mouse, it will passively scent your desk.
Not a beginning of April Fools’ joke – in fact, it’s really a brilliant idea – MD101 is very real and much under development. ASUS has not confirmed pricing or a release date, but a company’s spokesman has been quoted by The Verge as saying that the mouse will hit us paid tribute to “the end of April, early May.”
It follows last year’s message about ASUS Adol Book 14, a laptop with a built -in scent dispenser. Whether other ASUS product lines should receive a fragrant upgrade, to see, the company also recently announced three new aerial screens-so it is very much in the idea of melting from home with computer technology. And we expect it to be on something.
The smell of a good idea
When choosing one of the best computer mice, most users go to physical ergonomics over the smell of a given model. Still, there may be an argument for fragrant accessories.
While oils can of course give your work area a nicer aroma, they could also have soothing benefits to different health conditions. Many people, for example, find aromatherapy oils that calm down for headaches and stress.
Therefore, there is an argument that the smelling properties of accessories have a role to play in making the work areas more ergonomic. It certainly seems to be what ASUS suggests with MD101. How many people will buy into that thinking is another matter.
It is worth noting that 100% pure essential oils cannot be used with the scent mouse. In the small (odor?) Printing of the product list, ASUS instructs users to fill only the vial with “essential oils for pipe diffusers, ultrasound diffusers and aroma rental.” While this means you can’t mix your own blend of pure essential oils, it still gives you lots of scents to choose from.
Unlike driven diffusers, it seems that the MD101 does not actively distribute the oil you choose to fill it with. Instead, it seems to be a passive diffuser. Although this approach will be advantageous for the life of the battery, only the test of the real world will determine how effective the mouse is actually to scent an area.
In addition to the refillable vial, the scent mouse MD101 is otherwise a fairly standard wireless mouse. Available in iridescent white or rose clay finish, it can connect to Windows, MacOS and Chromebook devices via Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz wireless. DPI is adjustable up to 2400, while the PTFE feet promise to slide easily on different surfaces.
A single AA battery is expected to deliver up to one year of use, although it may vary depending on how much you use MD101’s “Delicat Underlow Lighting”. Along with the scent room, Asus rains that it will add “a touch of elegance” to your work surface.
