- YouTube Music has a new AI music host function
- Sounds like Ai DJ in Spotify
- The new feature is part of a YouTube Labs portal
If you are a YouTube music user in the US, you may have an experimental new feature of testing in your account: It is introduced as part of what YouTube calls YouTube Labs, so it seems more experiments will be on the way in the future.
YouTube labs are apparently “dedicated to exploring AI’s potential on YouTube,” and the first test to be pushed out is something called AI music hosts. These hosts are going to “elaborate on your listening experience” by sharing relevant stories, fan trivia and “fun” comment between tracks in YouTube music cap.
According to the official message, it is open to a “limited number of” users in the US – we are not yet part of the group, so we cannot tell you exactly how the feature works. However, it sounds like the AI DJ that is available as part of Spotify Premium.
The people of the 9TO5GOOGLE have got the AI Music Hosts feature that works, and it adds a new button to the now played screen, just to the right of the thumb and thumb down. You can press this to activate AI-driven interjections.
What is new is new again
This seems to be a bit of an ommarking exercise rather than a whole new initiative. For some time, YouTube -Premium users have been able to go to www.youtube.com/new to test a series of experimental features.
Now the same URL is used for YouTube laboratories, so it looks like it just has a new name and a new AI focus (surprising surprise). In fact, it didn’t really have an old name – it was just referred to as an experimental function page. Previous experiments have included more sound quality and playback speed options.
While YouTube -Blog Post Message does not specify that the features are exclusive to YouTube -Premium, there is a YouTube Premium roof linked to the post, so presumably you have to subscribe to take advantage of this first test.
Previous experiments have often been limited to specific regions and units, but sometimes rolled out to everyone in the end. We will have to wait and see exactly how this AI Music host works and what else is in pipeline.
