- These YouTube -Premium features come to multiple users
- They cover playback speeds, sound quality and smart downloads
- YouTube has just renewed its experimental features page
If you have weighed up whether YouTube prize is worth the subscription fee, you now get five more features for your money. These features have previously been available as a test or on a limited selection of devices and are now rolling out more far -reaching.
The new features are described in an official YouTube help Forum Post (via 9to5Google). First up is the ability to increase playback speeds to a PACY 4X, which is twice the maximum 2X speed that ordinary YouTube users get. This is now fully accessible across Android, iOS and the Internet.
Then there is higher quality sound that rams tunes to 256 kbps on videos that are officially labeled as music tracks. This has already been available via YouTube music, but is now an option in YouTube for Android and iOS as well.
Next, Jump is Ahead, which allows you to quickly skip to the most visible sections of a video (in theory that cuts out the less interesting parts). YouTube premium subscribers have previously had access to this on the desktop and on mobile, and the feature is now pushed out to YouTube apps for smart TVs and game consoles.
YouTube shorts features
The other two features we need to cover are for YouTube shorts. Smart downloads for shorts – where the YouTube app automatically downloads recommended clips to view while you are offline – have previously been available on Android and have been tested on iOS, and now comes to all iPhone users.
It’s the same scenario for the final feature: Image-I-image mode for YouTube shorts. You can get this on Android in the past and by choosing to test it on iOS, but it is now an official part of the YouTube app for iOS.
Although these are not big upgrades, they are all useful in their own way, and YouTube -Premium subscribers will be happy to see more function parity across multiple devices. These features add everything you already get, including ad -free viewing, video transfers and YouTube Music Premium.
Some of these features are upgraded from opt-in experiments at the same time as YouTube is to remodel its YouTube laboratories, which now seems to have a new name and a new focus on AI features.
