In an interesting development, President Asif Ali Zardari has returned to Lahore for a two-day stay where he will hold a crucial meeting with PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, revealed sources on Thursday.
This is Zardari’s second visit to Punjab’s provincial capital in a week. The president, who is also PPP’s co -chair, was in Lahore on February 22 and February 23.
Previously, it was reported that the president was scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his stay. No such meeting took place.
However, the top leader held a meeting with the provincial leadership of the party, which assessed him of the difficulties facing PPP in the country’s political power center.
This time, however, the president is ready to meet PML-N president Nawaz Sharif, sources said Thursday.
They said the meeting will focus on discussing the challenges that PPP faces in Punjab. Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan will also be present at the meeting.
The most important decisions will be made to tackle PPP’s concerns in Punjab. The president also meets with leaders from Central Punjab, the sources added.
Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif met on Thursday with his party’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) leadership.
On this occasion, former Senator and ANT’s central information secretary Zahid Khan expressed his confidence in Nawaz’s leadership and announced his decision to join PML-N and confirm his commitment to playing an active political role.
According to a statement from PML-N, Khan said that PML-N’s ideology and program led by Nawaz Sharif could help solve Pakistans and KP’s current questions.
“Nawaz Sharif’s government had restored peace in KP by removing terrorism and initiating development projects that benefit the people.
“The Lowari tunnel project, which had been stopped for years, was completed under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, giving a great convenience to the people of Chitral,” he added.
He also praised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s performance and said that the population of KP also wants PML-N’s leadership in their province.
Nawaz Sharif welcomed Zahid Khan into PML-N and recognized him as an experienced political worker whose inclusion would strengthen the party.
He said, “KP is the heart of Pakistan, and its people have sacrificed great victims in the Pakistan movement and in the fight against terrorism.”
He said that PML-N’s agenda is to ensure people’s prosperity and raise Pakistan among developed nations.
