ISLAMABAD:
President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday took serious note of the deteriorating law and order situation in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, especially Skardu, where violent protests have caused extensive damage to public and private infrastructure and disrupted normal life.
He stated that peaceful protest is a constitutional right, but must be exercised within the framework of the law, a press release from the presidency said.
The President strongly condemned the wanton destruction and harm to the public. He said such actions are illegal and fall within the ambit of serious criminal behavior under current law.
