Pakistan and the United States on Saturday agreed to take coordinated action against networks involved in fraudulent and fake visa activities.
The development in a meeting between Interior Minister Mogsin Naqvi with US Ambassador to Pakistan Natalie Baker, where the two sides discussed strengthening bilateral elation and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
According to the Ministry of Interior, detailed talks were held to strengthen cooperation, particularly to curb illegal immigration and improve the efficiency of the pre-immigration clearance system.
The two sides also agreed to increase cooperation at all levels in law enforcement training with a particular focus on the police.
The meeting decided to initiate joint action under comprehensive standard operating procedures against networks involved in fake and fraudulent visa activities.
Naqvi reiterated that the government had adopted a zero-tolerance policy against agent mafias and those who facilitate illegal migration and welcomed the cooperation of the United States in this regard.
“I am personally monitoring the actions against fake visa networks,” the minister was quoted as saying, adding that Pakistan’s passports had been made foolproof through the use of modern technology.
He described illegal immigration as a serious problem and said the government’s crackdown on those trying to reach the United States illegally continues.
Naqvi said effective government measures had resulted in a 47% reduction in illegal immigration and stressed that no leniency would be shown to those involved in producing or facilitating false documentation.
The Home Secretary also appreciated the role of US President Donald Trump and Ambassador Baker in facilitating the Pakistan-India ceasefire by May 2025, terming it as an important step in averting a potential regional crisis.
Describing the ceasefire as a service to humanity, he welcomed the US president’s positive remarks on Pakistan’s leadership and reiterated Islamabad’s desire to deepen cooperation with Washington across multiple sectors.
Reaffirming Washington’s commitment to its relationship with Pakistan, Ambassador Baker said the United States attaches special importance to bilateral ties, adding that shared priorities and expanded cooperation will further strengthen relations between the two countries.
Federal Home Minister Khurram Agha was also present at the meeting.
