The Zootopia 2 Trailer has given us our first look at Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde’s (Jason Bateman) Next Adventure almost a decade after the original movie was released. In short, the Disney movie will follow the couple warmly on the trail of a mysterious snake that suddenly appears in the city, leading them to walking undercover in parts of Zootopia they have never explored before.
Listen, we said ourselves Zootopia deserved a successor, but certainly not like this. As you can tell from the assumption above, Zootopia 2 is already getting up to be a total Gawnfest. I’m not sure how much it matters to the target audience in less than 10s, but hey, is there a more restless demographic than them? Either way, I think our first few minutes of recordings in Zootopia 2 Trailer highlights a real problem with Disney’s lack of creative commitment.
Follows in the footsteps of Turns redAt Luca and Inside Out 2 (Yes, I appreciate that this is collaboration with Pixar), it feels as if the study has regressed back to its cookie-cutter cash grab approach, it took the moment it started to wipe out several streams of successors and live action adaptations. It is not only the lack of imagination with the story that is furious me – there was an obvious way to be much more playful with the title.
The trailer Zootopia 2 is smooth at best, but why is the new movie not called 2ootopia?
Disney, you can have this on me. “2ootopia” (pronounced to-Topia) would have been such a letthant way to inject something fun back into what already turns out to be a bit of a lazy launch. The Internet is often haunted about sequels who add their movie number to their title, and apart from the fact that we are really fun on social media, it is an easy victory as far as kids movies are concerned. Young’uns need something big and cool to grab, and it starts with the first impression a movie makes.
I certainly shouldn’t tell the most famous animated company in the world how to do something as basic as their actual job but if it’s the best they have for Zootopia 2 Putting a snake loose in the city only to get caught again, their heads clearly need a wobble. It is definitely a nice touch to include a therapy session as a gentle way to pierc fun on how we perceive ourselves – it is definitely the strongest scene we have seen so far – but how much is it just superficial lip service? If you want to play it safely, it’s better to give the illusion of doing something else and that’s exactly what Disney has done here.
I love Judy Hopps more than life itself, so I really hope that I am wrong with my first roof rating of Zootopia 2 trailer. The fact that I have not got a single interesting thing to say about it is not the best start but at least there is always time to redirect 2ootopia.
Zootopia 2 must be released on November 26, 2025.
