Maryam Nawaz promises modern urban development inspired by Japan

Punjab and Yokohama have been agreed on ‘city-to-city’ cooperation in various areas, including environmental protection and delivered modern development systems to cities, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced during her visit to the Japanese commercial, economic and cultural hub Monday.

The main minister and her delegation were given a detailed orientation of urban development at Yokohama City Hall. She discussed how to bring the quality of construction on roads and buildings in Punjab on a par with Japan’s. She also discussed various opportunities for collaboration between Ravi Urban Development Authority (Ruda) and Yokohama.

The Minister of Ministry reviewed the possibilities of collaboration to run a high -speed train between Lahore and Islamabad, in addition to the upgrade of railway infrastructure in the province. She also reviewed the latest Japanese chairmanship and air cabin projects.

Maryam was informed that ‘Kun-She’, the three cities of Tokyo, Kawasaki and Yokohama, are located in an industrial zone in Japan. “Yokohama is the second largest city in Japan in terms of population. In May, an annual conference for Asian development bank Yokohama declared the most developed city in Asia in terms of environmental improvement.”

Punjab CM is on a five-day official visit to Japan. She also visited Japan’s largest wastewater wastewater wastewater treatment plant. Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb accompanied her.

“Japan’s modern technology and methods will be used for wastewater and waste management in Punjab,” she told the apartment. She inspected the waste treatment systems in Asahi, Yokohama City, Kanagawa, Washimaku and Yodogawa.

She was informed of the waste and wastewater collection along with the waste marking systems in Japanese cities. She was informed that Yokohama’s regular waste and wastewater treatment plants process 1.5 million liters of wastewater daily.

“The Yokohama waste treatment plant also operates several plants that generate energy from waste. This energy is used for heating systems for the local population,” Japanese officials said. They said the plant was an ideal institution for waste disposal using modern technology.

CM was informed that “Waste is separated into recyclable components through a modern plant and automated system. Despite being an industrial city, Yokohama has the highest environmental standards.”

Maryam said the environmental and urban development model would be implemented in Punjab. She also visited various parts of Newport Pier Bonded Warehouse and a center for teaching skills for children during the welfare of society in the then facility. She saw children produce different things from paper and other material.

The children showed her examples of their creative talents and she congratulated them. CM said on the occasion that a model for the welfare of society was also promoted in Punjab. “We also adopt methods of education and skill development on modern lines besides providing facilities for Punjab children,” she added.

During a visit to the Yokohama harbor, the chief minister informed the hosts of Ruda and said, “We want to develop Lahore, which is on the banks of the Ravi River, on the model of Yokohama.”

She invited Yokohama Urban Development Authority officials to visit Lahore and see Ruda’s work. “We want to work for the construction and development of industrial and densely populated cities of Punjab, including Lahore, about the model of Yokohama. We will transform Ruda into a modern urban development institution at the model of Yokohama.”

The Yokohama team accepted the invitation to visit Lahore. CM Maryam said: “We want urban development and at the same time ensure protection against environmental pollution and dangers along with industrial development.”

She noted, “Japan’s densely populated and industrial city of Yokohama is a rare example of modern urban development.” She was given an information about work, management and facilities in the harbor.

Meanwhile, Maryam imposed on all stakeholders to take emergency measures considering possible skybursts and heavy rain over Punjab. She instructed doctors and paramedic staff at hospitals and health centers to remain aware of coping with any inappropriate situation.

She instructed officials in the communications and work department to immediately repair and restore the roads affected by the rain. CM ordered additional administration and other relevant authorities to remain aware based on the heavy rain in Chakwal and other areas.

She also instructed the authorities to ensure the protection of life and property in low -lying areas of Chakwal together with banning bathing in rivers and channels. She ordered police to patrol all areas.

She issued directives for timely evacuation of residents in areas affected by flooding and restoration of traffic by removing obstacles from small and large roads affected by the rain. She said, “Cloudbursts and stormy rain are natural accidents. All relevant institutions must remain aware of all times. No negligence is tolerated in this regard.”
