Iga Swatek caught his first Cincinnati Open Title Monday by beating Jasmine Paolini 7-5 6-4, where the pole of seeds sent a strong message in front of the US Open.
The six times the Grand Slam winner did not fall a set on their way to the title and was clinically in the final and converted all six of her break points to squeeze her 11th WTA 1000 crown and only since last year’s Italian Open.
She is now the second winner of all times in the WTA 1000 format story that only draws Serena Williams (23).
“I want to thank my team. I don’t know why I won tournaments that were like the last in terms of where I thought I would play well,” said Swatek.
“Thank you for forcing me to become a better player and learn to play on these faster surfaces. I’m shocked and super happy.”
Paolini started the brighter, undulating to a 3-0 lead and pushed Swatek to the brim of a double break. Still, the rod responded with a five-game race, and after spreading its first chance to serve the opening set, it closed on its second attempt.
Swatek carried his momentum into the second set and played two break points of 4-3 before holding on to move within a game in the title. She sealed victory at the first option with a great serving and expanded her perfect record against the Italian to 6-0.
The victory ensures that Wimbledon -Master Swatek climbs back to the world’s number two and secures the second seed for the last major of the year on Flushing Meadows, where the single action begins on Sunday.
Swatek is also ready to join forces with Norway’s Casper Ruud in the new US Open Mixed Doubles event.
Earlier in the day, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz claimed the Lord’s title after Top Seed Jannik Sinner retired in the first set.
